    The "Movie Prop" Jersey Thread

For some time now a couple of sellers on eBay have been selling quality sports jerseys that were custom made and or modified for use in movies, television shows, commercials, etc. Some of these jerseys feature retail tagging but professional lettering and numbering. Some feature fictitious player names on the back, as is usually the case with fictional stories.

The most intriguing of all jerseys (in my opinion) are the "vintage" ones that were custom-made, to the highest standards, in limited quantities for a production. These shirts often lack tagging altogether, or may have a small tag tucked somewhere inside, but the typical tagging found elsewhere is not necessary for showbiz jerseys. A prime example of this kind of shirt can be found on eBay right now, for sale by notable Hollywood liquidator "silverscreensports." This 1960s Baltimore Orioles flannel reproduction is one of the best you'll ever find. Slap a harvested tag or two on it, and viola....

Anyhow, let's try to post any interesting prop jerseys we might find along the way. I have a feeling some of these will show up down the road, represented as "spring training" or game used jerseys. Once their trail of provenance is lost, a few of these will be real head-scratchers.

Here's a beautiful Cubs flannel that was probably used in the same production as the Orioles shirt.
