I think there is a lot of investment potential in this area... in addition to the intrinsic value of it being art.
I have a neat piece I was given as a gift about 20 years ago. It was made by an elderly man in Quebec, Canada who typically just made hand carved ducks. It is crafted from a single piece of wood (minus the bat and base). A nice piece of Quebecois folk art.

I always hope to come across things of this sort at flea markets, garage sales, etc.
