Check out the Wilson Baltimore Orioles #8 GU cap on Ebay being advertised as a Cal Ripken Jr. gamer. It is size 7 1/2 and #8. Notice the vintage style and the Wilson date code of 1974.

I never knew Ripken played for the Baltimore Orioles while in his teens. Seriously, the style is wrong, size is wrong, manufacturer is wrong for being a Ripken gamer.......but are suitable for a circa. 1974 Andy Etchebarren # 8 gamer which it actually is. What really is bad is the story used by the seller. It really is a nice vintage Orioles cap though, just not a Ripken gamer.

Sad but true. I was going to make a post myself and then saw yours. Dead giveaways are the date and the solid black paneling. I believe the Orioles put the white panels on sometime in 1975, and Cal didn't get into the league for another 6 years. So Cal would have been around 15 years of age when this cap was in play at best! Don't even get me started on the story...I'll just say its cliché. Good catch either way.

The seller has relisted this cap and there is no mention now of Cal Ripken in his story of how it was obtained. AMAZING!!!!!!!!!

There is no denying that this is a scarce style seldom seen on Ebay.......I would not be surprised to see it top $250.

WOW! It did bring a great price. Joel, it is a shame that the seller had to come up with 2 different stories. One of them (or maybe even both) are lies. The cap didn't need such stories in order for it to bring a nice price.
