This is an exceptionally rare bat. I'm not completely surprised by the closing price, but I am surprised by the high reserve of $800. It is getting so difficult for folks without deep pockets to pick up quality items on ebay at bargain prices. They are still out there, but getting tougher.

Prices on high qaulity rare bats are escalating rapidly. There have been a couple on ebay recently that have gone exceptionally high. There is one out there now that is pretty incredible....(I can't share auction until it ends :) )

Heh....I know what it is, and that one ain't going to go cheap either. I bet Mike has already seen it too. :D I won't be bidding though as I just spent my collecting allowance on ebay on two exceptional items (one of them I consider to be my Holy Grail) and I have bids in on the current Hunt's auction.

I am sure you both have seen it. :D I won't be bidding either..just watching for fun! I think I know your new item..I thought of you when I saw it earlier this week while searching. The under bidder has a punk name..."bang-bang..."

Actually that's not my Holy Grail, but it's related.....I picked this up:

It's the first one I've ever seen in many years of searching....I was prepared to go much, much higher on this, and I had the snipe put in to prove it...:D Obviously my main competition for Nebraska Indian items did not see this.

I was able to pick up a copy of the Nebraska Indians not long after ebay started. Great book with lots of info. That's about what I paid for mine, but I think they are very undervalued.

Thanks for sharing guys on all the other threads. I haven't picked anything up lately to share unfortunately.

Clint, did you pick up the same book I have or do you have "The Nebraska Indians: A Complete History"?

I have never seen another copy of "Fun and Frolic..." anywhere. Amazon, Abebooks, or any of the rare book websites. I should mention other than the reprints that came out in 1992.

I can't decide if that will go as high. The acorn knobs are impossible to find. I'm guessing $600-$700 on the other.

Mike, did you see the Spalding 'Antique' Ring bat that sold last week?

What did you think about the price that went for?

While the condition is pretty strong (we've all seen better), it was too short for the money IMO. A 35" would be worth that.

The high bidder doesn't bid on this type of item often and none of the key buyers took it anywhere near the level paid.

Nothing surprises me anymore. Quality 19th century bats are drying up...this was a pretty nice one.

Dan, the book I have is identical to the one you have. It's original and not a reprint. Clint

I completely missed that bat. Amazing that two would turn up in such a short time.
