Now that Jim Leyland's likely leaving the dugout for good, I wonder what Leyland-connected items are out there. I read somewhere that he wasn't much of a signer, but he kept up the big dugout lineup cards himself during the game, at least recently. I don't know if he filled them out in full before the game.

I have an official batting-order card from a Pirates-Mets game during the 1991 season. It's signed by Leyland and has Barry Bonds on it as LF. Substitutions were made in a different hand and different ink, so it's probably the copy given by Leyland to the umpire or opposing manager.

I've got a couple to share:

Lineup card from the day of my oldest son's birth (I also have one for my youngest, but apparently didn't take a photo)

I don't think he was especially difficult when it came to signing (great TTM). He definitely didn't have a lot of patients for the more serious collector. I had a 2006 World Series ball that I had meticulously collected most of the 25 man roster, all in blue ballpoint. I tracked down Leyland at the ballpark and he was one of the last I needed on the ball. I handed him the ball and was about to hand him my blue ballpoint when he started to sign the SS with a black sharpie. I frantically tried to get him to stop, but he didn't have any time for that. What are you going to do? At least the one different signature on the ball is Skip!
