What's with Alex Rodriguez??? Why is it that even after his horrible slump in 2006 his stuff still goes for crazy prices? I was speechless after seeing the winning bid on this auction:

Well ofcoarse his numbers and accomplishments are one of the reasons why his stuff is going high but it just surprises me that even though he goes through a horrible slump the prices still stay high.

Ted Williams had slump years by his standards,as did Aaron,Cobb,Clemens,Nolan Ryan,Willie Mays,my point is that even sure shot hall of famers have off years.Arod will surpass all the names i listed above even with his "off year".

I think he has a great shot to pass Hank and Bonds. If he still played in Texas where he was hitting 50 homers a season, he would pass them no problem. Tougher to hit them playing half your games in Yankee Stadium. But if he stays healthy and plays another 8 or 9 seasons, he is going to have some giant numbers all around......

I do not like New York at all, but I think it's crazy to call his 2006 numbers a "slump." It wasn't his best year, but I wish all my players would slump that way. He could very well be the alltime HR king. If New York doesn't want him, I'll take him.

Kylehess a player of ARODS caliber, value is not going to go down because of a slump year he has way too many accomplishments, broke to many records and will probably continue you to do so.
The only way you will start to see his stuff drop in price if he had continuous bad seasons and it probably wouldn't even drop much because he is a gauranteed hall of famer.

Most players would kill to have the #s that Arod put up in a supposed down year.

i agree with staindsox and rose14. other players would kill to have the numbers arod put up in '06. i know he has had trouble in the playoffs, but i dont get it. he was mvp last year. i think the media just needs something to talk about.

As an avid arod fan and collector, It amazes me how many people hate arod. Because he's good? Because of the money? Unfortunatley, arod cares to much about playing good everyday, wants to win, and wants to please the media and fans. He has let his bad times (which aren't all that bad) with the Yankees get into his head and affect his performance at critical times.

I was born and raised in New York (I'm 47). It amazes me how the New York fans have treated arod. Booing him at times it ok, that happens with all fans. But not stop...give me a break.

As much as I love New York and the New York Yankees, Arod needs to leave. Arod's good for New York...New York's not good for arod.

Say what you will in regards to Arod, the fact is that until he comes up HUGE in the post season, he will never be a popular player in the eyes and hearts of many Yankee fans. I'm not saying it's right or wrong, I'm just saying that's the way it is. To illustrate the point, Jim Leyritz, a good but somewhat marginal player is extremely more popular with Yankee fans on the basis of 2 gigantic at bats.
