Regarding the middle jersey of post #1, which describes a Manning jersey with "body odor, dirt stains, and sweat stains".

Someone please explain to me how a jersey worn on synthetic turf can possibly have dirt stains. PLEASE explain that to me. I'm not even touching the sleeve issue on that jersey, I just want to know HOW there can be dirt stains from a jersey "worn" on synthetic turf.

The seller on Ebay , BEGNYA, is actually Tom Brandi and an entire thread was noted about him:
http://www.gameuseduniverse.com/vb_forum/showthread.php?t=4813&highlight=begnya

He is the same seller who offered a Daulton Phillies jersey with restoration and claimed it was purchased from the Phillies charity auction (never could provide the Phillies LOA). He also tried to sell a Ryan Howard bat here on the Forum and had issues surrounding it, too.

Based on this current Manning jersey and the problems you note, combined with his past, I would not touch it with a 10 foot pole.

Only experience I've had with PSI was a supposed 1992 Marino game issued helmet I acquired. After receipt and examination I could see the outlines of where the stock original warning and other stickers had been removed from the rear, the ones that come on stock Pro-Lines, and replaced with accurate decals. That raised some suspicion.

I then had a conversation with the guys at HelmutHut and was told they knew the equipment manager for the Dolphins during the Marino years and that he claimed virtually none of Dan's helmets escaped the locker room, casting serious doubt on many helmets circulating out there, including mine.

Since that time, further research has also cast doubt on the model number of the helmet and size.

Lastly, the helmet carried a signature and an Upper Deck hologram, and it didn't seem likely UD would be involved in a game issued helmet. Anyway, I sent it in to get the LOA re-issued and it was, but stated nothing about it being a limited release, game issue, etc.

Bottom line, I'm wary of PSI.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=200138892626&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=010

I couldn't photo match the name plate font and due to the poor quality of photos (awaiting others to be emailed), I can't tell if the sleeves have the correct length....thoughts anyone???

Here is another...not a football jersey expert by any means, but based on the price...it can't be the real thing. Also word for word (part about the body odor etc...) is listed by Eric in one of his first posts so it has resurfaced again.

Sleeves on both of the above appear too short to me, from comparison with the Manning pic on my office wall.

The cert is not yet in the MEARS database. Not sure how you can certify that it's an Event Worn item if as in the mears letter photo there is no provenence.

My favorite line from the auction- "Those who have smelled Manning after the games you know what he smells like."

i found those event pics interesting. so it seems manning had those short-sleeved jerseys made up for little parties, car dealership openings, etc. no wonder so many of them have turned up. the colts may have made a lot of them for manning's promo purposes. not sure why a promo jersey garners an A5 but i've never understood those grades.

anyway, another manning gem:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=110176572495

this one comes with a cert from the colts. of course it's just a generic cert which may have originally been issued to another jersey and is now being used to try to sell this short-sleeved manning. check out the "M" in manning on the back. nutty!

I emailed this seller and ask if he was the original owner of the 2002 Manning Jersey and if that was the certificate that came with it. His reply was: Yes. Nothing else.

I emailed him back and ask: You are telling me that you bought the Manning jersey directly from the Colts and that is the certificate they sent with that jersey. His reply: Yes. I have a letter with the Vick from PSI but I cannot find it. You can see the hologram in the picture.

I have bought a couple of common player jerseys from the Colts and that is the type cert that came with them. There is no way they sold a Peyton Manning jersey with that certificate. Also in reveiwing pictures the M is different than any I can find in game photos. Placement of the patch seem different that all the photos also.

another short-sleeved manning with team loa:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160202892041

awhile, someone on the forum posted pics of manning at some team cocktail party charity function and he was wearing a short-sleeved jersey. maybe manning prefers long sleeves for throwing passes and short sleeves for throwing back appletinis. anyway, if the colts did indeed make some of these jerseys up for promo purposes, then perhaps they accidentally got mixed up with his gamers when it came time to sell.

I messaged the seller to tell him that the jersey was never game worn by Manning, citing the sleeves, and referring him to this thread. Prob with the generic Colts COA is it doesn't even ID the jersey or player, it almost certainly came with a cheap no name player jersey then was attached to the Manning knockoff jersey. Seller responded he knew about the sleeve issue but referred to the fact it had been passed by Mears. However, when asked, he admitted the Mears grade was a lowly A5.
