Griffey Jr. Jersey on Ebay

I just wanted to give a heads up. It appears that this is a jersey that I sold to this guy back in June. I had purchased from someone who advertised it as a game worn Grif jersey, and all the photos provided looked like they supported that fact. However, when I rec'd the jersey, it was obviously a game worn 1995 Mariners jersey that was changed to be a #24 Griffey jersey.

The person I had purchased it from took my cash, changed their number, moved, and basically fell off the face of the earth. No lying. I wouldn't believe it, if I didn't have it happen. I had no use for the jersey, and was left with no alternative but to sell as a Griffey Jersey (Notice, I did NOT say game worn). I simply sold this jersey as a Griffey jersey with no implications that it was a gamer.

It has now resurfaced, and is listed as "Game Worn".

In photos, this jersey looks perfect, but don't be fooled. When you get it, you will see a teal fade mark where there was a different number and some piling where someone has tried to rub away any evidence of a previous number.

GRIFFEY Jr. JERSEY ON EABY-MORE THAN 1 PROBLEM

Not to mention that the Mariners had a Negro League patch they wore on their 1995 jerseys. Where is the patch? Maybe when the fellow you mention stripped this down, he forgot to keep the patch on, too!

Re: Griffey Jr. Jersey on Ebay

I had originally bid on this jersey and then had my bid cancelled (I appreciated the seller's willingness to cancel my bid so promptly). In our emails back and forth, the seller provided me with information about the provenance of the jersey:

>From: "eBay Member: prhitking4256" <member@ebay.com>
>Subject: Re: Question for item #8722180392 - KEN GRIFFEY JR GAME WORN USED >1995 MARINERS JERSEY

>From what I have found they did not wear the patch all season, but I'm not >positive. I obtained the jersey from a former minor league player in the >Mariners farm system. He obtained several of his items in spring training, so >it may just be a spring training worn shirt. I also had a 1994 Griffey home >jersey, and according to Mike Heffner, Griffey only wore it in spring >training of 1994. It was also tagged properly and showed good use? I >certainly don't want to mislead anyone, and I will do some more homework and >add it to the listing. Thanks Reid, Chris

Is this false information?

I am the seller of this jersey. First let me state that I would never try to mislead anyone on a game used jersey. I purchased this jersey and was told that it was from a minor league source, and put that information in my notes. I was never told anything about a number change or anything when I purchased the jersey, and truly believed that it was a Griffey game used 1995 jersey. I did recieve two emails about the patch. If this is the same jersey that the above seller sold then why did he alter the jersey and not give me this information at the time or sell it as a fake or altered jersey(makes you question his motives)? I will gladly remove the jersey from Ebay and burn the freaking thing. It does not have the patch as stated above. but looks to have possibly had something on the sleeve above the Russell logo at one time. I have had several bad experiences with every Griffey jersey that I have ever owned with exception of the ones from Mill Creek or that I purchased directly from the team. Please believe me, I am an honest collector and my intention was never to decieve anyone! I will remove the jersey immediately and believe me the jersey will be taken off the market for good. Thanks

Auction has been ended. To the original seller of the jersey: Would you mind refunding my money on this jersey? I bought it from you as a Ken Griffey game jersey, and it showed good use when I recieved it. The pictures in your original listing were blurry, but showed the team tagging etc. I pulled your original auction listing that I printed and you NEVER mentioned the # change or anything that would lead me to believe it was not game used. And I never questioned it until I read your post. What was I supposed to think when I bought it from you???????????? Unbelievable

Sorry to keep rambling on about this, but this really bothers me. The original seller who berated me on this forum obviously got burned on a jersey that he was not comfortable with and then decided to "pass the buck" and by taking blurry pictures and not putting the word "used" in his description felt he was not doing anything wrong. I disagree, the above seller should have stated the jersey had been doctored when he sold it to me! If you were to buy a Griffey game jersey with no mention of any alterations and then recieve it properly tagged and showing good game use, what would you think? I was happy as hell with the jersey. I don't have the best eyesight in the world but this jersey does not have any obvious signs of a number change. I have purchased several game used items over the years that were listed as "game" jerseys or "game" bats that were in fact game used items sold by people who did not see the importance of adding "used" or "worn" to the description. Just a few weeks ago I purchased a Jose Canseco game bat, that was just listed as "game" bat and not "game used" and when I recieved it, it had a ton of good major league use, and nice seam marks. If I decide to ever sell it, should I feel obligated to sell it as a "game model" bat? I just have to question the motives of the guy who sold this jersey to me, and started this blog. I am that glad he did, because I am very proud of my perfect feedback and would not want to pass on an item that I NOW know is no good! Thanks

You stated, "I have purchased several game used items over the years that were listed as "game" jerseys or "game" bats that were in fact game used items sold by people who did not see the importance of adding "used" or "worn" to the description. Just a few weeks ago I purchased a Jose Canseco game bat, that was just listed as "game" bat and not "game used" and when I recieved it, it had a ton of good major league use, and nice seam marks. If you want to know my motives, then I will tell you. When I sold the jersey (if this is indeed the same one as I don't recall a patch ), I listed it as a Griffey Jersey. Never once did I say it was worn or used. You mentioned your Canseco bat, but I'm not sure what the reasoning was. Sure, you purchased a bat as a "game bat", but were thrilled when it was "game used". I think this just might be the opposite. You were hoping that it was more than a "Griffey jersey", when it was never advertised as such. I too have a perfect ebay rating - well over 600. I try my best to advertise stuff accordingly. In this instance, I kept the jersey completely away from the "Game Used Memorabilia" section of ebay, and never listed it as "game worn" or "game used". I'm sorry you read more into it, than there was.

I know the issue of what to do with items you've been burned with has come up in discussion here before. Personally, I've sold one other item, that I had also been burned on. I sold it in a similar fashion, on ebay. In that case, the guy supported my belief that the item was not game worn and was not buying as such. He simply wanted to get an autograph on it. I was hoping a similar thing would take place. I don't believe that the jersey is worthy of being destroyed, but just shouldn't be misrepresented.
