New lurker on the board!

I have a C271 bat stamped George "Lou" Brett.

Is this anything or just a store model bat? I can post pics if necessary.

Thanks

I think that Lou was only on '91-'93 bats. Is Kansas City Royals also on barrel brand? And weight, length and pics will get the real answer for pro model or store model....

He also had Lou on 1990 C271s ... with nothing under the name...

That Brett bat is a freaking beauty. Maybe some day when I retire...

After looking at the OPs pictures some more... I am thinking this is a promo bat. The Lousville Slugger (R) on the barrel dates to 1986-89, the Lou on the barrel name plate dates to 1990+. I was thinking maybe the bat was a late 1989 bat, but I can find no others. Finally, I realized that the center brand with the longer labeling and the dot under the 1 is a 1998+ trait...

Based on the centerbrand, I'm not seeing any way this bat could have been issued to Brett during his playing career. Unless there is something I am missing, I'm thinking this is a post career promo bat, probably for autograph events and charity auctions etc.

Thanks for your help guys.

I bought it on ebay several years ago and forgot all about it until I stumbled upon your website.

Thanks again!

Glad to help... here is a good reference on the labeling...

http://webpages.charter.net/birdbats/Birdbats/Bat%20ID/LS%201980-Current.htm

if you scroll down to the entry for 1998, you can see what I was talking about on the center label.

1998H&B changed the font used for the words "Louisville Slugger" inside the oval. The new font was "squattier" and spaced out slightly more (1998 bat is the bottom one).
Bats with this center label that do not have a MLB logo on the "sweet spot" were made only in 1998.
