View Full Version : Auction Houses Raise Fees - Lose Business

That 20 percent buyer's premium for the current Mastro auction sure has curtailed my bidding.

Instead of being able to bid more on the item itself, I now have factor in an additional 200.00 on every 1000.00 bid. That hurts.

I'm purchasing from eBay more and major auction houses less every month.

How long do you think it will take before the premium is 30 to 50 percent?

I am aware that there are costs involved in having an auction, but collecting 40 to 50 percent of the sale price is ridiculous.

As an example, Mastro's generally will have sales of 10,00000.00 plus in a decent auction. Even at the low end of the scale, buyer and seller fees combined, 30 percent is 3,000000.00. That is 3 million dollars made from one auction, and I came to that figure using low estimates.

The other companies are already there or right behind in their premiums. Some have even exceeded the 20 percent. Add their excessive shipping fees and I drop out more often, and sooner.

Being as a lot of this stuff ends up on eBay anyway, I just wait.
