Get your Johnny Bench game used bat! From the PRIME of his career!
Which apparently was in Anaheim in 1999...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-Game-Used-Johnny-Bench-Model-B278-H-B-Baseball-Bat-Cincinnati-Reds-/161190005919?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2587ac4c9f

What is this guys damage?

I guess it list in the description that it was given at a convention...
So is this guy saying it was used by Bench and the engraving was added in 1999?

If so, what a waste of a bat! So maybe I over-reacted with the original statement a bit, but is this a normal thing? Ruining a game used bat like this?

It's a store model, line under 125.

Thanks Yanks.

I didnt think it was an actual gamer but didnt want to throw the guy under the bus... but the engraving made me think it wasnt legit.

Check out the pine tar. I have seen several Bench bats and never have I seen pine tar like that. LOL

I wonder if it's still sticky. :)

Yes the line under the 125 is a dead give away as well.

An additional issue not yet mentioned is that the style of signature endorsement on the barrel was in use for sure from 1967 to about 1972. From 1973 on it was a different, more modern style similar to what his autograph is like, present day.

Basically a circa 1969 signature endorsement, 1986-89 registered trademark symbol after Louisville Slugger on the barrel, and an underlined 125. Heaps of issues.

The seller has been told that the bat was NEVER used by Bench...yet the listing remains. I believe this is one of those show bats that was produced for autographs. Most of those had the 86-89 labeling and underlined 125 along with the model numbers stamped on the knobs.

looks like the seller adjusted the listing finally

If you hated the first one, check out this "Beauty" another forum member pointed out to me. WOW...Tons of issues. Flame tempered, JB3(bench retail 33 inches, and the worst looking 5 on a Bench bat.

Love how they used the Reds logo on the "letter of authenticity" to make it look like it came from the team. Inkjet printers were around in the 1960s, right?

Not that this means anything, but have you ever seen any legitimate COA or LOA that uses a cartoon font like comic sans? I haven't.

Seems unprofessional and sketchy at best.

Little update: After pointing out the bat was not game used the seller is standing by it as game used, since that is what he purchased it at and will give it to his son if it does not sell.

Everyone who reads this thread should report it as fake to ebay.
It's easy to do, just click on the report item button.

Scam artist reaction:
"You are wrong, it is authentic. If it doesn't sell, I will just keep it/pass it down to my children."

Honest person's reaction:
"Oh my goodness, thank you so much for that information! I'm going back to the sports memorabilia store tonight to make them give me a refund!"

Before I made the post here, I made a nice e-mail to the seller with a list of why the bat is NOT a Johnny Bench gamer and he did not reply. I'm totally shocked!! DWS

Well that ebay seller came after me in an email after ebay took his bat down.

"Well I ended up selling it privately off of eBay for a nice price. The gentleman who purchased it said he knows its legit and will soon be relisting with Psa authentication. Thanks for your concern. If you want it keep your eyes open because your bat guy doesn't know what he's talking about. God bless you and better luck next time on trying to hurt people reputations when you don't actually have a single fact to back it up. Still would love to know what "websites" talk about eBay auctions haha I think people have lives and don't waste their time talking about things they obviously know nothing about! You could've possibly had a true Johnny bench bat for 99.99 if you just kept your mouth shut and didn't make false claims to eBay. "

Not that I believe any of this, but let's play pretend:
I'd love to be there when that "gentleman" gets his $150 rejection letter from PSA! What's this bunghole going to say then?

I think the authentication letter will be written in finger paints... which would actually make it a very interesting piece.
