ok guys, I am trying to figure out how to identify the year of use based off the stampings on the knob of my Schmidt gamer.

Can someone breakdown how to do that for me?

I can tell already it's from the 80's but a pic of the knob will be able to tell what yr it's from.

Did you just buy this recently?

Sounds good. Yeah, post a pic of the knob and we should be able to tell you the year. And if you don't mind, post a pic or two of close ups of that tar. Want to take a closer look at that.

It's from 1987. To me, the tar looks a little funky. Does anyone else have any thoughts on that?

Sorry, I just want to make sure got what you paid for.

it's pretty caked on. and as you can see in the one pic, it broke underneath where the tar is applied.

I have a half dozen Schmidt game used bats, but none with as much pine tar. Mike isn't a big pine tar type of guy. The bat looks good, but there is alot of pine tar.

It looked blotchy to me, like it was applied(doctored) by someone. This is clearly just my opinion.

Actually, you may be right.

Kevin, take a look at a couple of 1988 Donruss ball cards and another 1988 card. For comparison on your 1987 bat, the pine tar seems to be in line with the photo you took of yours. Shows quite a bit above the red ring and heavy, with the signed photo card as much if not more than yours. Let me know what you think. Barry
