Baseballs - American League

Am pretty new to sports collecting. Have been enjoying collecting pre 1920 Red Sox items for the past few years.

Was wondering if anyone had any information on what brand of ball or balls would have been used prior to 1920, most specifically for the Boston Americans or Red Sox.

Any help would be most appreciated.

Reach brand American League and/or American Association balls.

Greg, follow the link to a photo of the style of Reach OAL baseball used from 1910 to 1925. It's characterized from later Reach OAL baseballs by the block or print lettering of "Official American League" as opposed to the handwriting style used from 1926 on.

Awesome stuff and awesome site Aaron, thanks for posting it. I'll have to keep my eyes open for one of those beauties. Where did you get the ball?

Thanks, Greg. I got it in one of Mastro's "Classic Collector" auctions last June. I just got the Spalding ONL baseball from about the same period and now have them displayed side-by-side. I'll try and get a new photo up soon.
