80's Mets gamers with numbers written under center brand

I've come across some Met gamers from the 80's with numbers written under the center brand. These numbers are typically not the players uniform numbers and these bats are legit gamers with the actual players numbers on the knobs and barrel ends.

Anyone know what the significance of these numbers are?
