My brother told me the other day that he bought me 2 things for Christmas that will make me go nuts! And he also told me that it's a different piece of equipment then what I have now. So today, a HUGE heavy box came in mail addressed to my brother and he told me last night the it was supposed to arrive today. I look at who it's from and it says STEINER SPORTS!!!!!!!!!!! I can't even imagine what he got me. Is anybody else expecting game used for Christmas? My brother is the only person in my family who knows a little about it and knows where to get it.

Hi Kyle,

Maybe your brother got you the best gift ever, A-Rod from the 2006 playoffs? I've heard from some of the Yankee fans on here that he's been missing since around October 4th...and hasn't been seen since so he could be your Christmas present.

An okay gift if you ask me...really expensive...but only useful from April through September.

Other Yankees sold separately.

That's awesome! No one in my family knows anything about buying a game used item. ( nor would be able to afford a GU item!)

Kyle how big is this box?

Maybe we can all help you guess what it is.

I like Tim's guess. Since Arod couldn't hit himself out of a brown paper bag in October this large box will probably keep him from coming out till you open it on Christmas morning :)

The box is about 1 foot tall and 2 feet wide. It's not THAT big but it sure is bigger than what regular equipment would be in. My guess is that it's a base. It sure would be cool though to get A-Rod for Christmas, I'd send him to the Braves right away since the Braves GM doesn't like good players anymore and he just wants to trade them all away

Smart money says its a base complete with metal post. They are impressive to look at, but with the post seem very difficult to display

Are the metal posts in bases removeable?

Are the metal posts in bases removeable?

I'm wondering the same exact thing, because I am about to purchase one from Bob M @ Steiner... I would have thought 'yes' because they sell game used base wall displays, but I don't what it takes to remove the post (could be as simple as a couple of screws but I haven't seen one in person before).

Does anyone have a game used base, complete with post, in their collection? If so, do you know this info first hand?

Hi-
...I have 2 game used bases and just checked them out. There are no screws on the post. The post is surrounded by a metal square which looks like it's actually spot-welded to the base (once on each side of the square). It looks like you'd have to slip a crowbar under the square/post and just pry it off.Hope this helps...

The post is attached to a metal plate covering the undersurface of the base. By removing the screws securing the metal ribbon to the base the post can be taken out

WOW!! I was talking to my brother tonight and he told me that he bought my other present (not the one in the box) from someone who originally got it from a company called Coast To Coast Sports and that their original price was $1399!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've never been this anxious before for anything!

I have a handful of Astros bases and the posts are removable. Just unscrew/unbolt the 12 screws/bolts and then the thin metal pieces come off. Then, just pull the wntire metal plate off. I remove the posts on a couple of mine to mount inside coffee tables in a sports remove, and then covered with glass. You can always put the plate back on at a future date if you like.

hey fellas, thought I'd add a few words. Purchased a GU base from the 2001 ALCS recently. No metal post on it; presumably removed by MLB or Safeco Field? Made by Hollywood bases. I'd post pictures, but my desktop crashed, so I'm on my son's laptop. This picture will have to do! Could that be the one?

Even though I've always opened presents at midnight, this year is kinda different. My parents are in Tennessee and they'll be coming back around 6 or 7 tonight, which is when we are all opening presents. So as soon as I open them I'll let everyone know what I got

I was right! It's a game used base! Braves-Mets 2nd base from 7-15-05 which just so happened to be the first game that John Smoltz and Tom Glavine faced eachother. It's has tons of use. THIS IS THE BEST CHRISTMAS EVER!!!!!!!!!

Kyle -Congratulations. How to display it? By the way I was at that game behind the Braves dugout. They changed the bases every three innings. One pitch sequence had Piazza throwing back to Glavine,Glavine pitching to Andruw Jones when he fouled it off to a woman to my left. I told her to write down and remember that three HOF'ers just played with that ball.

Hi Kyle --

Here's a link to a Griffey Jr HR Derby pic from 1994 AS Game (see next to last item on Picture Menu at bottom). Not detailed, but maybe you can enlarge it more and enhance it some...Good Luck

Congrats on the great Christmas presents - your best gift is that you have a terrific brother who obviously cares about making you happy!
I have an older base, the base stolen by Jerry Remy in 1975, which was the Angels record setting 200th stolen base of the year. The metal post is actually welded onto the bottom of the base, and I think having the post makes it easier to display the base -- it allows the base to be propped up on its own -- kind of like a counter advertising display with an easel back.

I have them displayed at the bottom in the case that I made (next to the jersey & bats in the pic below). I'm officially out of room though now and I gotta make another case.

I guess my Christmas list should have included a computer class on how to enlarge / enhance web images, or at least a really big magnifying glass.
