Re: jose canseco jersey size!
If I recall he wore a size 48 with Tampa. He then started wearing a 50 when he played for the Yankees and Chicago.
Just like anything you could buy pro cuts and have them made into looking like gamers.
I know of a black alternate floating around. It is a size 48 with +2" sleeve length and +2" armhole opening. It is a size 48. -
Re: jose canseco jersey size!
I can tell you that size would be right for Jose and the 2 extra length as well.

Nothing is stopping people from getting blank issued jerseys and customizing. Especially teams who sell there game used quite often. I know Tampa sell a ton of game used/issued jerseys at fairly cheap prices.
Without seeing a picture or having it on hand it is hard to tell.Comment

Re: jose canseco jersey size!
Ok, so I went ahead and bought it. The price seemed too good to be true, but I figured that even if it was fake it looked nice enough to wear to a game. As a point of reference I used a 2000 Dan Wheeler jersey I bought directly from the Rays at fanfest 2012.
I tried to do my best to scale them, but I don't have a tripod, and I'm not exactly a photoshop whiz. So they aren't perfect side by side. For reference, Canseco is on the left in all of the side by side pics.
So here are the jersey backs:
I was really lucky in that both contained the letter 'E', and both had the number 3. It also helped that Wheeler and Canseco have the same number of letters, so I thought this would be the best possible apples to apples comparison.
The letters on both are 3.75" x 1.75"
The numbers on both are 8" x 4(7/8)"
Both nameplates are 5.5" tall, and the (shortest) distance between Lower left corner and lower right corner is 1 foot on both of them. The lettering matches.
Here are the fronts. Nothing notable here except neither has the velcro under the team logo, which I have found is not always present in these years.
Now, here was where things got interesting. Shortly after getting home I noticed a glaring difference, at which point I thought I'd been duped.
Clearly there is an issue if the 'R' is on different sleeves right? Apparently this isnt a dealbreaker either. Look Here and Here The Canseco image was taken 5/14/00 and the Wheeler 4/12/00.
The other difference is in the tagging. Here is the Canseco (2" added to both sleeve opening and end):
Here is the Wheeler:
And here is the tagging on a Juan Guzman team issued jersey I have from the same year:
Based on this, I think this jersey is at least team-issued, but would love to hear feedback from the rest of you.Comment

Re: jose canseco jersey size!
Based on the tagging and the R on the right sleeve instead of the left, it looks like the Wheeler was a 1999 jersey shell that was given to him for use in 2000, with the MLB neck logo added. Y2K was a transition time for the location of the Russell logo (Right sleeve 1992-99, Left sleeve 2000-04) and the tag style, with a total redesign for 2000. Being a transition year, 1999 tagging and logo location will show up on some legitimate 2000 gamers.
I hope this helps.
