    1966 Mets jersey

Looks like this guy bought the jersey to flip it and lost, bought it from MEARS for $1100 and sells it on ebay for $600. Ouch.

Interesting since the auction on eBay started the same day the auction ended on Mears. I wonder if the winner of the Mears auction even paid.

I assumed the ebay seller was the buyer of the MEARS and was flipping the jersey before he had it in hand.

I asked the seller about this shirt, specifically, how he knew it was from 1966 when there is no year tag. He told me that based on Ron Hunt's Mets career and the style of the shirt, it had to be 1966. I was tempted to then ask him how he knew it was used by Ron Hunt, but by then I just wasn't comfortable with it.

Pretty risky way to do business, thinking ebay will bring a better price than a major auction (including buyer's premium.) I wonder if he's going to do the right thing, pay $1100+ so he can honor the ebay sale, and take a $500 hit.

He's just repeating what MEARS said it was.

I'm not sure how to date older Mets flannels but if that jersey is one year off (1967) then its a Chuck Estrada jersey, not Ron Hunt.

                Deja Vu all over again:

Guy paid $393 for it and sold it a week later for.... $393.

Here's the twist - I bought it. Not knowing anything about Red Sox tagging, does it look okay?

Funny it looks like one user bid on most of his items, specially the ron hunt one. So I doubt he actually sold it and was just shill bidding/secret reserve.

Yes, I think you are right. The guy who "won" the Hunt jersey comes up as 5***a. Which also is the 2nd high bidder on the Red Sox shirt I won.

Now, is it a coincidence that 5***a stopped at $388, so that the next bidder (me) would push the bid to $393, which is exactly what the seller paid for the thing last week (not counting shipping?)

By the way, I found the background on this shirt:

                    According to Legendary:
Boston Red Sox Game Used Jersey Collection
This fresh-to-the-hobby collection comes to us from a consignor whose father befriended many baseball scouts in western Pennsylvania during the 1970s, one of whom received the jerseys/pants from the Red Sox clubhouse during spring training. Our consignor’s father purchased the uniforms from this scout (whose name and years of tenure are now lost due to the father having passed away in 2009), and then the family retained them in storage in Punxsutawney, PA, for the past almost three decades. The Red Sox of the late 1960s and early 1970s were managed by Dick Williams and then Eddie Kasko, and they finished in 2nd or 3rd place from 1969 through 1972. Bright and clean overall with light to moderate game use, these attractive garments feature highly displayable McAuliffe labels sewn together in tandem with the manufacturer, season and size. All home jerseys exhibit a 7-button front, “Red Sox” slightly arched in old English red on midnight navy felt, and the club’s slash numeral font style on the verso in identical materials.
