Not a huge jersey guy so looking to see if anyone have any insight on what this could be? The guy I talked to said it was game used. But after looking around a bit, it seems as though Griffey maybe wore 44 as a rookie? Anyone ever see any 40 game used?

Set tag added? It looks much newer than everything else.

There's a good chance it's one of these:

the score board jersey did NOT have the 'automatic dryer' comment in the wash tage

It would be helpful if an expert could look at the tags. I was unader the impression that Griffey's rookie-era jerseys were closer to a size 44.

The Scoreboard Griffey jerseys ("with all proper tagging") were size 40.

Griffey wore size 44 and only 44 during his rookie year.

Do the math.

I think the ScoreBoard jerseys where tagged a size 46.

I agree. He wore size 44.

When I go home I will take a snapshot of the jersey he signed to me in 1989 tagging and post

here is the tagging for all SB jerseys.
note the "T" for tapered
note the lack of mention of automatic dryer.

do not know what the pictured jersey is in this thread, but it is NOT a score board jersey

It's not a Score Board based on the 1988-89 Rawlings tag (SB version had 1990-91 Rawlings tags, even if they were tagged 1989). However, it's not a gamer...Griffey Jr. never took smaller than a 44 in the how, and that was just for his first 2 or 3 seasons.

So is the first Griffey in this post a ScoreBoard?

Phil
my GUESS would be they were NOT ordered and signed for Score Board.
They do NOT match the jersey I have, that CERTAINLY was ordered and signed for score board (he signed it for me personally).
It would appear that others were able to get tagging back then too.

The Scoreboard Griffeys were size 40, although I've seen numerous other examples of non-Scoreboard Griffey rookie issued jerseys that were size 40 as well.

There are also a TON of non-Scoreboard Griffeys in size 46 floating around. Some even have the "automatic dryer" line like a real gamer.

The ones that say, "Griffey Jr." on the back are just comical, since he never wore "Jr." on his nameplate while he was with the Mariners.

Sorry as I don't know much about jerseys... but in layman's terms.. what does that mean for this jersey? Scoreboard Griffeys a good thing? Would this even be worth the $1,500 they asking for it?

do NOT buy that jersey unless its for decoration.
it would not have fit Ken Griffey jr, even in 1989. size 40 is incorrect

"score board" jerseys refers to set tagged Rawlings jerseys that were hand signed by the athlete and marketed as 'Autographed, NOT game used" jerseys 23-25 years ago (1990-92) by "Score Board". This differs from other jerseys that people mocked up themselves or altered to look like game used or game issued jerseys.

No, it's probably worth $100-$150. I still think the set tag was added, due to aging, which would make this a retail/collector jersey. Assuming the autograph is authentic, I think $100-$150 seems fair.
