I have the opportunity to get a high profile player's shower shoes. Is the general consensus that it's creepy? Or that it's a unique item that usually doesn't hit the market?

I'm really on the fence with this. Help!

I would say slightly gross and creepy since I'm assuming you wouldn't want to wash them (although after thinking about it.. it's probably already washed).... but still kind of gross.. but I'm a slight germaphobe too :)

I think weird, I mean to each their own and obviously there is a market for them as I do see them online quite often, but I wouldn't add it to my collection.

Collect what you like.

I wouldn't want something that was on anyones feet, but thats just my own hangup.:)

I say if the price is right grab them. People collect everything and anything.

Several issues on this one:

1) How would you verify that the player wore them? Photo matching?

2) It's simply gross, and well past the line of stalker-ish.

3) It is a unique item for which there probably isn't a market. I think there's a bit of "greater (greatest) fool" going on here.

They come with a coa from the players autograph agent at the time. No "hard" evidence like photo matching and such but it's a reliable source. I'm on the side of creepy and weird.

Weird. Like a jock strap or a toothbrush.

Some things just need to be thrown away, no matter who they were "used" by.

A jockstrap is taking it too far. A pair of sandals not as much. Unless of course you are afraid of feet.

I'm going to be honest...I don't know who would want something like this and I would be a little disturbed. Just what I think

You can go from a generic "Cowboys" sandal - steiner certified http://www.ebay.com/itm/2009-Cowboys-Game-Used-Sandals-Single-Steiner-COA-NFL-Worn-/201016514336?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ecd849720

to Theo Ratliff http://www.ebay.com/itm/Theo-Ratliff-Los-Angeles-Laker-Authentic-Nike-Player-Used-Shower-Sandels-/150719427247?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item231793f2af

to Lamar Odom - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Lamar-Odom-Los-Angeles-Laker-Authentic-Nike-Player-Used-Shower-Sandels-/160699938532?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item256a7676e4

and Kobe Bryant http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kobe-Bryant-Los-Angeles-Laker-Authentic-Nike-Player-Used-Shower-Sandels-/150719419449?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item231793d439

personally, if they were certified as being worn, and it's a superstar player... if the price was right - say $50 or something for a big name like a LeBron... I think I'd have to give it some real thought... but then again, what's the difference between buying their sandals or a used undershirt from their daily lives? I mean, I guess it was in the locker room at least...

Haha, fantastic responses all. If nothing else, this is some nice comic relief.

I don't agree that it's past the line of stalker-ish. A little odd but not anywhere close to stalker-ish. It would be stalker-ish if he broke into the team clubhouse and stole them and then sniffed them regularly.

Just finished dinner and this subject is making me nauseated.

I can just see and smell the foot fungus spreading throughout the rest of your collection.

This thread has been good for many laughs. It brings back the one-sided conversation that Crash Davis was delivering to Nuke LaLoosh in Bull Durham:

"Think classy, you'll be classy. Once you win 20 in The Show, then you can let the fungus grow on your shower shoes and the press will think you're colorful.

"Until then, it means you're a slob!"

As disgusting as some might find shower shoes to be, I know of at least one that, to me, is worse.

In the late 1970s, when genuine game-used equipment was still a fledgling part of the hobby and both supply and demand were limited, one New Jersey collector, on his price list, offered game used jock straps and under pants of Phillies players:eek:   .

Can anyone top that?

Top that? No, but more recent examples of Sportsworld offering used jocks/underwear up (the framed pair from Papelbon always makes me laugh):

With most of my non photomatched items I always look at it and imagine the player wearing it...Not a good item for me .
