Wasn't Joe Carter the first to have them made for him by LS? Soon after Bonds started making the SAM bats famous? Are all SAM bats maple? Do they even make ash?

Techincally, Louisville Slugger made some Maple bats back in the 30's not many because of the drying procedures back then coudln't produce light enough timber and the machinery they used wasn't the best for turning Maple.
Yes, Joe Carter was the first when Maple came back. They started turning Maple in 1997-1998. No major production started until 2002, now it's half of our production.

SAM only makes Maple.
