    Strip tag question

I have seen MLB jerseys that are authenticated by MLB as being game used in April or May but have strip tags with high set numbers of S10 or S12 or so. And I have seen other jerseys with strip tags of low set numbers of S2 or so as being used in September.

I am assuming that MLB players are issued a certain number of jerseys and there is no order that they have to wear them in.

    Am I correct?

I used to think that jerseys were used in the order they were ordered so the lower numbers would alway be used first.

Apparently that is not the case and the players just have a rack of jerseys and choose the one they want to wear.

Anyone with more insight into this?

The only place I recall chronology and set designations to routinely reflect each other is the NHL...set 1 before the All-Star break, and set 2 after.

Rawlings flag tags have a set 1 and set 2 chronology based on original uniform order as opposed to later order, but strip tag set numbers are not used as such.

I recall seeing an Opening Day Cubs home jersey worn by Derrek Lee (can't recall the year). It was a set 4.
