I received this bat during batting practice from derek jeter at game 6 of he 1996 world series. I am confused as to why he would have a natural color bat as seemed to use black bats during games?

Can anyone shed any light on the symbol on the knob and any insight on the L.S. model etc?

thanks

It's also really wierd that he used a model that he never used in games, and that he marked the handle in a fashion never seen... Really weird... Almost unbelievable.

And if I'm not mistakes this bat was manufactured between 1986-1989.. That's even weirder...I guess you want to sell it here??

He gave you a team bat, not one of his bats. I am assuming he grabbed a bat laying around the cage or dugout.

I was one of the only young kids standing near the yankees's dugout before the game and so he came over and gave it to me. I didnt have a pen to ask for an autograph.

As far as the bat in question. I find it interesting that the writing on the knob has heavy ink pressure on the starting and ending points. Also on the wood grain lines.

No way to prove the story.

I once owned a Randy Verlarde Yankees bat that had the same exact symbol on the knob. Never understood exactly what it was.

"Christian Fish" comes to mind.

There are 3 things that I find very odd about this bat:

1. The labeling period of the bat is 1986 to 1989, players certainly carry over bats from previous seasons, but 7 years seems excessive.

2. It is a T141 model. LVS is considering retiring the P72 in honor of Jeter who contracted with them his entire career and used 1 model, so why would he be swinging a T141?

3. This is a generic team issued bat, "New York Yankees", which is commonly found in the minor leagues.

If Jeter truly did give you this bat during the 1996 world series, then you may be the only person who can see the value in the bat; it may be impossible to convince anyone otherwise.

I thought minor league bats from the 90's would often have "Louisville Slugger" instead of a team name on the barrel.
