    Cabrera Helmet

Being offered a game used helmet (home) of Miguel Cabrera. What should the price be?

Helmet is signed on bill and contains a holo on the inside and a holo on the outside. I can post those too if anyone would like. This is a helmet I want to buy. The seller has not given me a price yet. I thought I'd get an idea thru the forum first?

Is the holo an MLB holo? That's probably a good place to start.

The first hologram is the MLB Authetication for the helmet.

I realize this will sound stupid, but you should pay what you're willing to pay. The helmet appears to check out as a game used helmet, and I'm not sure how often those come to market for the Tigers.

I have no idea what to pay on this. The seller told me to "come and look at it." He's not exactly next door and I could Saturday but really need a firm idea on value... Anyone?

I recently paid $300 off one of the guys on here for a Torii Hunter ALCS Game Used Helmet with the MLB Hologram and authenticity. In the auctions I've seen for jerseys, they are rolling in the $2,000 to $3,000 range. Helmets are tricky but I would think you are looking at $750 to $1,000 in value for Cabrera. I know Tigers were selling hats for $750. That may be a cheap estimate, but I don't think you can get more than that in return for the investment. See what you can do to get the price down - this is the year to do it. Good luck!

I also looked up the game - he went 1 for 6 with a strikeout and a base hit, so it's not like the statistics justify a higher price for it. Good luck!

I'm pretty sure though that they don't get a new helmet every game. It's very possible that he used the same helmet for the last part of the season. I could be wrong but it is a possibility.

Over the last few seasons, the Tigers appear to be burning thru alot of game used items. Helmets from 2013 on MLB auctions seemed almost non-stop—far from 1 or 2 most teams issue and light use on all (in fact, I just checked, they're still auctioning Fielder helmets from 2013). That Cabrera ALCS also came back around a few months later:

and a ST Miggy with light use:

I think there is a reason that these helmets are selling low . . . and not just the fact that helmets are a little more niche than bats or jerseys.

Take a look at this one if you want to see the type of helmet that helmet collectors would actually covet:

Anyway, I don't know if the Tigers were churning out as many items back in 2008, but I took a quick look on Getty and Cabrera's helmet looked new over a span of months (making me assume, they pulled a couple over the season). Personally, I wouldn't buy a light use helmet (unless it was WS or really special), but for a nice Miggy helmet with good use and able to be photomatched via that use, I wouldn't pass at the $1250 to $1500 range.
