The details

Phil Epps (Texas Christian U) was selected by the Green Bay Packers as their 12th round draft pick in 1982. He was a late round selection that went on to become a much loved wide receiver for Green Bay from 1982 to 1988. Epps is ranked as one the 10 best sleeper picks in Packer history.

Epps was a world record holding sprinter at the time he was drafted. He started his career as an exceedingly fast punt returner and and eventually became a starting receiver alongside Packer great James Lofton. Epps' personal best time of 20.19 seconds in the 200 meter was the second fastest time in the world in 1982. Epps was famous for being a shorter and lighter wide receiver at 5-10 and 160 pounds (note that this jersey is size 40 which is a smaller than average size). Epps was graced with lighting fast speed and an incredible knack for explosively breaking away from defenders. In 1983 he returned a punt 90 yards for a touchdown against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. In another memorable play during a November 10th 1985 game against the Vikings Epps caught a pass from Lynn Dickey on the 21-yard line and hopped into the end zone while attempting to maintain his balance and remain inbounds. The Packers won that game 27-17 and Epps' catch became a sensation. Epps also played in the famous Snow Bowl blowout against the Buccaneers on December 1st, 1985.

During his time with the Packers Epps scored 14 touchdowns with 192 receptions and 2884 yard in addition to 10 carries for 121 yards and a TD. He went on to play for the Jets in 1989 and retired after one season.

This size 40 durene jersey has been style matched to being worn by Phil Epps in the 1985 season. The match links the jersey to the historic December 1st 1985 "Snow Bowl" game against the Buccaneers (a 21-0 Packer win). A photo of Epps during that game is shown below.

This game used Packer jersey exhibits light wear and is in fantastic condition. This is a rugged durene jersey with a custom tailored hand warmer added to the front of the jersey to keep Epps hands warm in cold weather games. The custom hand warmer can be seen in the photo of Epps below which was taken in the December 1st 1985 Snow Bowl game. In addition the original Epps name plate remains on the rear of the jersey (hard to find on historic jerseys) and the letter spacing perfectly matches the type worn by Epps in photo from 1985-1987. In earlier seasons Epps wore a jersey with the letters E P P S spaced out much wider on the name plate. This helps further date this fantastic jersey which is firmly 1985-1988. All of the identifiers on this historic jersey are properly screened on in single-color white, the jersey tail includes the original sewn Medalist Sand-Knit tags including 'Designed & Tailored Exclusively for the Green Bay Packers", the Made in Berlin, WI tag remains on the inside of the jersey, and the size tag 40 matches the size tag in the collar (40).
