Where does it come from?

So, being new to collecting game used items, my question is this:
Where do most of y'all get your items?

Do you ask the players outright after a game?

Do you buy it from other collectors/ Ebay/ team roadshows?

I guess I'm trying to imagine how the conversation goes; "hey Big Papi, can I please have your cleats?"

My son (10yo) is very interested in game used bats, and has had 2 successes after a minor league game, but just wondering if there is a better way of getting things from the players!
