Mets Goodman and Sons jersey 1977 ??

Picked this up a few months ago and am looking for the information on the jersey.I was under the impression it was a 1977 Mets with some research I aquired information that the Mets wore Goodman and Sons in 1977.Now I am hearing there is a possibility they did not.That they wore Goodman & Sons in 1974 .If they wore it in 1977 this would be Joe Fraizer mgr for the Mets in 1977.Any opinions or help would be appeciated..

Based on my research, the Mets DID wear Goodman & Sons jerseys in 1977. They did however use more than 1 jersey manufacturer that year. In 1977, Rawlings made the home white pinstripe jerseys and Goodman made the road grays.
Since Goodman didn't put year tags on anything, it's often difficult to really zero in on an exact year (this issue is in fact driving me crazy with my Astros gamers) but for the Mets jerseys, it's quite easy.
Goodman manufactured Mets road jerseys in 3 different years: 1976, 1977 and 1986. As your jersey is obviously a 70's style, it would come down to only one of 2 years: 1976 and 1977. The 1 differentiating factor is the bicentennial patch that was worn on the right sleeve in 1976. If your jersey is in fact a 1976, it should have the outline of the removed patch (look real hard!!)... otherwise, I can safely say it's a 1977.
The trouble with your jersey though is it looks like it has been altered. The front and back numbers do not look original (again, look hard & see if there is any outline of a different number that has been removed and replaced). There is also a '44' written on the tag, which I personally don't know what it could mean -- assigned to a different player/coach? recycled? doubt that someone would want to write a size on the tag if it already contained one? And the heavy dirt stain on the arm -- why would a manager have such a mark and not a player? Bottom line, I am fairly certain the jersey is a 1977, but that's about all I can say about it.

The guy who I bought it from on ebay played softball in it.He said he bought it about 20 years ago at a card show.I only paid $49 for it and I narrowed it down to 77 but then was told they wore them in 74.Numbers look altered that interesting.It was washed a few times the seller stated.

My records show that they wore this particular style road jersey for 4 years - 1974/1975/1976/1977. These were compiled by myself and 1 other guy and took months to put together.
Rawlings made the 74s & 75s. Goodman made the 76s & 77s.
Rawlings did all the home jerseys for all 4 of those years.

I'm curious that since there is the possibility of a discrepancy on the 74s vs. the 77s, does anyone out there have Bill Henderson's guide? I'm curious as to what it sais (whether or not it concurs with my research).

TNTtoys I took a look at the Henderson guide. he only lists Goodman as a mfr for '77 road and '86 home and road. interestingly, his photos of the 77's show a collar strip tagging consisting of size, year and # this is consistent with the the mets tagging of the era regardless of the mfr. if his guide differs from your research, remember that it is only a guide and has quite a few omissions/mistakes.

Thanks Lon. I have photos of a 75 game worn Mets road jersey, and it was made by Rawlings. As the 76's were pretty easy to spot by the bicentennial patch (or by the outline/residue where the bicentennial patch was removed), the only question I think at this point is whether Goodman made the 74s as well as the 77s. I would doubt this due to odds of the Mets using them, then Rawlings, then them again for the same jersey in a 4-yr span.
