    This week in uniform history

On January 22, 1929, the New York Yankees became the first team to put numbers on the backs of their home and road uniforms

(It wasn't the first time numbers appeared as a way to identify the players. In 1916 the Cleveland Indians for a short time, attached small numbers to their sleeves.)

Must've been a heckuva relief for radio announcers back then . Imagine the trouble the announcers would've had with the Devil Rays David Ortiz's infield shift . With no names or #'s being worn to identify anyone . Ahhhh , what a different (better ????) world that would've been......What year did all MLB teams start to wear uniform numbers ?????
    Thank you,
    David
