The Mets being cost effective most likely use bats from the prior years. Bob Malandro of Steiner Sports told me that they only get cracked bats from the Mets so most likely they save the uncracked usable ones for the next season or at least during spring training.
One definite proof I have that they recycle bats is my Gary Carter game used bat which he used to get his 900th RBI in April 1986 was actually an 84-85 era Louisville p89.
