I'm seeking the assistance of this forum's members in trying to ID the manufacture of a particular style vintage of uniform. In the recent American Memorabilia auction, was sold a circa 1967-'68 game-worn Durene jersey of Broncos' quarterback Steve Tensi (http://www.americanmemorabilia.com/Auction_Item.asp?auction_id=23361 (http://www.americanmemorabilia.com/Auction_Item.asp?auction_id=23361)). We belive that this item was incorrectly identified as being of Sand-Knit manufacture (the manufacturer's tagging itself is missing and all that remains is some remenants of the tag's stitching) and are in the process of doing research to try to nail down the specific of this particular style.

Having done some preliminary work, the dimensions of the tag's stitching (about 1" w X 3/4" h) seem to be about the correct proportion to the Wilson tagging that I am familiar with from the early 1970s (http://pscoggin.com/Endzone/Wilson_1970.jpg (http://pscoggin.com/Endzone/Wilson_1970.jpg)), but I cannot be certain if this is the same tagging style that was also used in 1967-'68. If anyone might happen to have access to a graphic of a confirmed exemplar of Wilson tagging from one of these two years and would be willing to share it, it would be greatly appreciated.

FYI, A game-dated photo from Nov 24, 1968 vs Bills(http://pscoggin.com/Endzone/1968_11_24.jpg (http://pscoggin.com/Endzone/1968_11_24.jpg)) shows a Broncos player (#70) with jersey tail hanging which also seems to bare tagging of this approximate size/porportion.

P.S. I would also be very interested in communicating with bidder #7008 from AMIs auction (the winning biddder of the previously mentioned Tensi jersey) for further reserch if he/she would be willing to contact me privately.

I may be able to help out here. About 9 months ago I personally handled and inspected a Cookie Gilchrist Denver Broncos game used jersey for authentication. I remember specifically it donned the same Wilson tagging you are referring to. Gilchrist played for Denver in 1965 going on to play for Miami in 1966 and then returning to Denver for his final season in the league in 1967 (playing in only 1 game that season).

However the jersey showed greater wear than as if was just worn in 1 game. Could it have been worn in '67 left over from 2 seasons previous, very possible. Regardless, it was indeed that same Wilson tagging that we know may now have been worn as far back as '65.

Bernie-
Thanks for the response. If I understand correctly, the jersey that you inspected dated to the 1967 season (http://endzone.pscoggin.com/Uni_1967.pdf), correct? This would have been easily distinguishable from the 1965-'66s which were a completly different style and manufactured, I believe, by Rawlings (http://endzone.pscoggin.com/Uni_1965.pdf). If so, having a confirmed exemplar from this specific year w/ tagging intact seems to wrap up my little mystery quite nicely.
