I have recently been watching a number of sports documentaries (including some from the ESPN 30/30 series) and have thoroughly enjoyed a number of them including:

Fantastic Lies
The Best That Never Was
Small Potatoes: Who Killed The USFL?
Brian and The Boz
I Hate Christian Laettner
Little Big Men
The Legend of Jimmy The Greek
The Battered Bastards of Baseball

Interestingly, after watching 'The Best That Never Was,' I realized I was connected on LinkedIn with Marcus Dupree.
I sent Mr. Dupree a message letting him know I enjoyed watching the documentary about him.
Honestly, I wasn't really expecting to hear anything back for a while, if at all.
Ironically, he messaged me back within about two minutes and we had a very pleasant conversation through LinkedIn.

Are there any documentaries anyone else would recommend?

I have watched the MLB Network's 1-hour long documentary on the history of the Montreal Expos a couple of times, and have thoroughly enjoyed it.
It's called "The Colorful Montreal Expos"

Most of the 30/30 are really good (as long as you like the subject matter) and I also liked the ones about the Dream Team and the Fab 5 that I believe were both on NBA network.

The Best That Never Was doc was a good one. All of the 30/30's I have watched have been good and I especially enjoyed these ones: Ben Wilson (Benji), Len Bias, Phi Slama Jama, and the 1970's NY Knicks.

Ive seen a couple good Netflix docs like fastball and the greatest of all time KEN BURNS Baseball! But if you've seen those I recommend seeing.......

1. Spaceman (a baseball odyssey) : good film about Bill Spaceman Lee
2. NETFLIX ORIGINAL : LAST CHANCE U......think a more raw version of Friday night lights

I never saw Ken Burns documentary and have no plans to do so...almost everyone I've talked to that has seen it says it's way too focused on the teams in the Northeast and ignores a lot of worthy subjects involving Midwestern ballclubs.

I think this thread is about documentaries that you like, not those that almost everyone you've talked to, do not like.

New York City is the best town in America, maybe the world.

I enjoyed lots of the 30 for 30 ones already mentioned, but especially "Broke" and "The U"

And caught a couple recently that I really liked on MLB Network, "1971 Pirates - Forever Brothers" and especially "School of Rickey"

Big fan of Rickey, highly underrated, to me anyway

The documentary in question was mentioned, and I offered my thoughts on it. Last time I looked, the 1st Amendment allowed me to do that.

No No: A Dockumentary is one of my favorite baseball documentary's on Netflix. The career of Dock Ellis which was defined by his no hitter thrown on June 12, 1970 while he was on LSD.

Being a huge fan of the defunct World Football League (1974/'75), one of my favorites is the ESPN "Lost Treasures of the NFL" documentary on the WFL. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gkfb7dwT4IQ

I've watched all the 30/30s enjoyed them all I love the Mets but have enjoyed the Yes Network Yankees documentaries I have DVD somewhere on the Red Sox docs loved the U growing up in the 80s loved parts 1 and 2 the Fab 5 was well done.Trying to think of the one I watched about a baseball league in the 70s watched it on Netflix so many others have to look for the ones on the Pirates and Expos..
