Advice for removing autographs from vinyl jersey numbers

Just picked up a 90's era jersey that I need to get the autograph removed. It looks to be a gold sharpie on a white, vinyl (non-fabric) number. Any suggestions how to best remove this without damaging the jersey or leaving an ugly smear? Thanks for the help!
