Ebay #172717542954 just closed. It's a 1981 Steve Swisher jersey, which he wore as a member of the Padres. I'm always interested in Steve because I grew up in the same town and knew his next door neighbors. Anyway, the jersey sold for an even $1000. Is there a reason why this jersey would be that valuable? I expected it to close in the $200s, but I'm no expert on Padres jerseys.

Thought it would go around the $300-$400 range. Though the Swisher would have been a nice pick up (I bid on it) and in my experience 81’s are somewhat difficult to find, I guess it was worth $1G to whoever bid on it.
A couple things definitely stuck out. First, the tag has markings that indicate it was used in the minors and therefore the NOB has been either replaced or restored. Secondly, extensive use is not consistent with the minimal games played by Swisher or the strike-shortened 1981 season. It’s not completely original.
Seems early Padres jersey are a hot commodity lately . . .
1979 that has been NOB and front has been stripped and “San Diego” replaced with “Padres”. Definitely a Frankenstein lower minor league jersey. Not worth $525
And the 1978 that Dave Medina alluded to in a previous post. For a grand, I’d at least want it to have the All Star patch.
