1968 Al Kaline bat:

I picked up this nice signed GU 10 Kaline, specific to '68, a special year for the Detroit Tigers. They won 103 games in the "Year of the Pitcher", then captured the World Series in a hard fought 7 game set over Bob Gibson and the Cardinals. Kaline bats seem to be tough to find, especially the better examples. The bat itself has a nice coat of pine tar on the handle, underlined 6 on the knob, with some heavy seam marks on the barrel.

Just picked up what is likely a 1938-43 Walker Cooper bat for my '42 Cardinals collection. Based on specs and comparisons I've done, it seems consistent with the C92 bat he used. There's also a chance it could have been used by his brother, Mort. With the addition of this bat and the Johnny Hopp, Jimmy Brown and Whitey Kurowski bats I got last month, I now have eight bats in my '42 collection. If you know where I can find an era-specific Enos Slaughter or Terry Moore bat, I'm all ears.

Hi Ben, what are the chances we can see how you display such an incredible collection?

Picked up a Kirby Puckett gamer, has some pine tar up the handle and heavy seam marks, just hard to pick up in photos versus in hand. And it got a GU 10, so it's got that going for it, which is nice.

Picked up this Brewers pre-season jersey. Contest winner created this 'Youniform' for games in Zona and at Miller Park. Taylor Green was to wear this rag, but busted his hip and missed the entire 2013 season.

Interesting pickup today. I bought this Red Schoendienst bat in the most recent Grey Flannel auction. It was advertised as a 33.5" early '50s index bat -- but that's an odd size for an index bat, and it's a model (S166) Red didn't use much (it would be odd for it to be his index model). So, I gambled. When I got it today, the first thing I did was measure it. Damn thing was 34", a typical index size. Then I looked closer: It had a 1955-60 version of "Genuine." So, I checked Red's PBOR and saw he had one order of 34" S166 bats on 2/8/61. Considering H&B probably didn't change the branding irons on New Year's Day, and this is the only 34" S166 on Red's very long PBOR, this bat almost surely is a '61 gamer with '50-'60 labeling.

Great job of hitting the books on that one, Jeff. You earned it!

Regarding bat labels, I was buying bats from the Cubs batboys in 1983. The first Rawlings/Adirondack label bat I was offered (Ron Cey) was sold to me in late June. Your hypothesis sound solid to me.

'04 Adrian Beltre - he used these Sam Bats early in that season, when he finished 2nd to some guy up in NorCal, hitting .334 with 48 home runs and 121 RBIs. It also resulted in a fat contract from Seattle, which ended up being a rough run with them. I wished he would've stayed with the Dodgers...
The bat has a huge number of seam marks all over the left barrel that I tried to capture in photos. It's new to the hobby, came right from the Dodgers back in the day.

Ben, that's a great Beltre! It's great to see new items entering the hobby that have some age to them. You must have the best contacts in all of the game used hobby. Been searching for an early Beltre for a while now and outside of the one which showed little if any use on eBay a month or so ago I've been striking out! If you ever want to sell your little black book of game used contacts I'm your man!

I think Nate should have a dozen or so Beltre bats he could move, so as to be able to clear a path thru his bat room, right?

Michael Brantley's 200th career double. Brantley doubled off of Joe Musgrove on May 21, 2017 at Minute Maid Park. The Indians would go on to defeat the Astros 8-6.

Mark Sweeney game used Louisville Slugger 1995-97 era Cardinals bat. #23 on both ends of the bat. The bat is new to the hobby, as far as I can tell.

Sweeney was a pinch hitting specialist.

Another hobby fresh item, as far as I can tell.

1992-93 era Kent Graham (QB) Giants game used Apex brand cleats.

I sent pics to Graham by email and he confirmed that they were indeed his cleats and were game worn. He even told me how terrible the Apex brand was. They were autographed to someone, and then that was scribbled out, so I'll need to figure out how to get rid of that scribble. The red coloring was added by someone with a marker. I mentioned that to Graham and he didn't acknowledge that in his reply. I'll have to assume that he did it to match the Giants colors.
