    Gift From Bret Saberhagen

I'm not sure exactly what he gave me....but nevertheless I truly appreciated his kindness. If you have info on this jersey please let me know.

From 1986-1988 (I believe) they would hold an offseason Slow Pitch softball game pitting the stars of the AL & NL , which was sponsored by Pizza Hut & telecast on NBC.....I have the programs in my collection somewhere & I'll try to see what year(s) Saberhagen participated (most likely the one before the 1986 season)...

I recall one of the contests was held at the old Boardwalk & Baseball complex in Florida..........

I'll look for those programs, however my notes indicate this photo is from the 1987 game:

The jerseys in this photo are sleeveless, no?

          Different than the Sabes jersey.

This one was reported as having been worn by Frank Viola in 1989. 1989 would be the earliest possible year for it too, as Viola was traded to the Mets at the July 31st deadline. Based on the style of the Viola, you could probably rule out 1989.

I think it's great that IRONMANFAN has programs from those games. Awesome.

In addition to the programs, I believe I also have the VHS recording of that 1986 game, which I'll have to pull that out too...

To be clear, I was only showing the Ripken/Boggs jerseys as an example of what they looked like in general....I noted my picture was from 1987 and surmised the Saberhagen jersey was from the year before.

Your right! Here is the article from the 1986 game and he is mentioned as playing.

I haven't heard that name in a long time, so many memories. The turf on that field was wild, I played a few games there and stayed in the dorms back in 91. Another iconic FL spring training location that has been demolished.
