View Full Version : Game Used Helmet MLB - dating question

I picked up this Indians helmet at a smaller auction house. There was not a lot of info other than it purported to be Omar Vizuel's. I went ahead and got it, so now I ask you all for some help. Any of you have some in depth knowledge of dating MLB batting helmets?

I compared the stickers to pics online, and it appears to me to be mid-90's. Earlier the MLB and ABC stickers appear to be sperate where here they are combined. Later in the decade, the MLB logo went away, or at least that seems to be the case. Here are some shots:

Helmet was made march of 1994 according to the little calendar wheel

The arrow is pointing at the 3 for March...how can the year be deciphered? TIA!

Look at the arrow itself and you will see a 9 to the left of it and a 4 to the right

Well, that is easy...and also great news for me. Vizquel was on the roster for 11 years, but of course, those 90's teams were the bomb. Also, Vizquel joined after the 1993 season, so if this wasn't made until 1994, pretty much guarantees it was his.

Yup , it's too bad it's his righty helmet cause almost all the Getty pics are of his lefty one. There was one of him on base that looked like a match but it was dated 2002 or something. Cool piece! Beat to crap

On another note, how are all these players heads so tiny? Ever try wearing one? Ball players have shrunken heads. It's nuts.

Or maybe we all just have big heads! I'll admit I was a bit disappointed when finding out my favorite player wore a smaller cap than me :/
