    Mazzilli bat model

I didn't realize I can't start a new thread on the bat shipment record forum. I don't see when that changed. Anyway,if I may, does anyone know if Mazzilli used either a L/S S44 or S2 model besides the M253 that were already aware of.

Don't have an answer to your question, but I should point out (in case it is of any interest to you) that I have a Mazzilli gamer that is an M258 not 253.

Swoboda not that this helps much, but maybe helpful towards your research I have a Mookie Wilson signature model used by Mazzilli which is a m253.

        Re: Mazzilli bat model

I have a 1987 "MAZZILLI" block letter M253 Louisville which was actually used by David Cone. Cone 44 on the knob with Maz's 13 blacked out.

There are 2 Maz S2 and S44 signature model gamers on ebay now. Once from the 84-85 labeling period and one probably from 1986.

I think my block letter is from 87 since it's was Cone's first year and he wore 44 that season and Maz probably did not renew his contact with HB that season (hence the block letters).

I can't comment on the model number S2 or S44.

          Re: Mazzilli bat model

The S2 Mazzilli bat on ebay has a "11" written on the knob -- which relates to 1983 (while with Pittsburgh), as it was the only time he ever wore that number in his career (unless we have another oddball scenario where he ordered it and another player used it?). If the bat model itself doesn't match up to an '83 order (you indicated 84-85 for one bat and 86 for the other), this might not be what it looks like.

            Re: Mazzilli bat model

            Hi Robert,

I'm the seller of the 1986-89 LS S44 that is on ebay right now (ends soon). The bat was purchased as part of a large Cincinnati Reds bat collection that included a few odds and ends (Yankees, Mets, Orioles, etc) and so I have no reason to believe that it is anything less than absolutely authentic.

It's just too bad the bat is so beat up. As you can probably tell by the pictures, it had at one time been taped for BP and is completely hammered with use.

Any further questions can be sent to me either at t_byington@yahoo.com or tim@hofbats.com.

            Thanks

Hey Tim -- I remember that bat!!!

Which means that it was probably the one that David pegged as the '86 in his note above.

And which also means that the #11 bat is the one he identified as an 84-85.

Over to you David -- is it plausible that the other bat is an 83?

                Re: Mazzilli bat model

After taking a better look at the center label of the S2 Maz bat it's actually a 80-83 large label bat. 1983 Maz played for the Pirates and wore number 11 so I'll have to agree that the bat is probably from 1983.

Tim's nice S44 is probably (my best guess) a Mets bat from the later half of 86 as the number 13 is on the knob. Maz wore no. 16 in 84-86 with the Pirates before being traded back to the Mets in 86.

Like I mentioned in my previous post I have a block letter "MAZZILLI" 86-89 labeled HB used by Cone which I believe is from 87.

Guessing Maz did like Wade Boggs did later in his career and did not renew a contract with HB as evidenced by the presence of block letter Yankee and Devil Ray Boggs HB's out there

Tim-Your S44 has a new home. I'll send postal M.O. tomorrow. Anyone selling a Mazzilli (Met) jacket or warm-up-w/name on back?

Just a note that the reference book America's Bat lists Model S44 as Mazzilli's most frequently ordered model as S44, and the most frequently ordered length / weight as 34" / 32 oz.

Thanks Mike and thanks Howard,Suave1477,David,TNT,and of course Tim (sounds like an Oscar speech). The #13 on the bat with the old tell-tale pine tar below the label make it,with everyones info a Mazzilli 86-89. I've changed my Holy Grail item from Van Slyke jersey to a Mazzilli warm-up/or jacket with name on back to complete the last section of empty wall in the basement. So if anyone knows where one can be found. Thanks again to Tim Byington (bat_master)... Band playing louder,Swoboda4 is escorted off stage.

                          Hi Robert,
I appreciate the purchase. Every bat I sell here and there gets me closer to buying a vintage H&B hall of famer for my collection....if I can find one I can afford.

                          Thanks again!
