    Best way to display bats?

I'm new to the hobby and have picked up several game-used bats. What's the best way to display them? All but one are cracked. Should they be displayed vertically or horizontally?

I think they look better horizontally, as a few are signed. But will that affect how they hold up over time?

I'd appreciate whatever advice you could offer. Thanks a lot.

Re: Best way to display bats?

Hi Mark - welcome to the wonderful world of bat collecting. Here are three examples of how I have my bats displayed. The hannging vertical display case you see is quite easily found on the internet and is pretty nice. They run about $200 and hold 9 bats. I prefer the horizontal custom cases you see ( two of them ) which are much more expensive, but are really nice. Bat tubes as you see against my wall are another option. These are just a few examples. There are some really nice bat racks that hold bats vertically and horizontally that you can get for under $200 and some are under $100. Do some internet searches and also some ebay searches and you will find a lot of great examples. Let me know how else I can help. Thanks, jim

Hi i use all bat tubes because it keeps all the dust away from the bats and i think they display nicely.

I have a bat closet and have 6 racks which take up all 3 walls of the closet. A company out of Iowa makes these great racks and I was able to display 56 bats on the walls. The great thing about these racks is that the slots are beveled so that the knobs of the bat fits perfectly.

I'm a touchy feely kinda guy so I like the fact that i can take any bat off a rack anytime without having to open up a case or bat tube but that's just me.

          Mark,

Most of the bats I have displayed vertically to save space. Most of the bats are signed and one of the advantages of keeping them in the closet from my perspective is that they are away from direct sun light. I try to get bats signed in black sharpie as i've heard blue tends to fade or turn to a purplish hue over time. In either case i try to keep the area where I display my bats in the dark most of the time.

Guys - awesome rooms! Thanks for sharing those pics. I'll do the same as soon as I get some of my stuff up.

Re: Best way to display bats?

I absolutely love seeing other people's displays so I figured I would add mine into the mix. I've got my "keepers" on a home made vertical rack that fits 22 tubes.

Each tube is held in place with velcro straps toward the top and velcro discs on the bottom of each tube.

Every tube is labeled with the era, company (obviously H&B), player, and model number if the bat has one.

It would appear I need to add some support to the bottom horizontal section as it has a noticeable dip in the middle.

I guess we all have to get in on the act. I prefer to use a horizontal bat case made of clear acrylic with a mirror background which really adds to the dynamics of the display.
