Ex-Forum contributor Joel Alpert currently has a pair of "1989/90 Pro-Cut/team issued Michael Jordan warm-ups" listed on ebay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/89-90-MICHAEL-JORDAN-GAME-ISSUED-PRO-CUT-WARMUPS-JERSEY_W0QQitemZ250097936149QQcategoryZ50135QQssPa geNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

How can one conclude that these were issued or have anything to do with Jordan, based on the lack of any type of identification relating to Jordan, i.e., no 23 written or embroidered in either the jacket or pants?

What am I missing here?

another pair:

alpert also had a home pair and road pair. anyway, the unfortunate part about all of these is that i think it's unlikely for them to survive very long without someone writing "23" on the tag, running them through the wash a few dozen times, and then realizing a nice 300% profit by sticking them in an auction house. save the ebay pics now and we'll see how long it takes.

anyway, as for attributing them to jordan specifically (as opposed to dennis hopson), you're right. although, all 3 warmups say they were purchased from the bulls so perhaps there's some sort of letter from the bulls that states they were issued to jordan? if there isn't, then you're right. what makes them attributable to jordan as opposed to hopson or cliff livingston?

I don't know anything about MJ gamers. Do his game worn warmups usually have his number sewn in or just written in marker? Is this the size he wore?

You could always email Joel. He's replied promptly to every email I've ever sent him.

The sizes are right. These were never available on the retail market. I have seen embroidered "23" and number written with laundry marker. I think it's a reasonable price for a nice set.

I agree with Rudy, these will end up at an auction house. I think it is good for all collectors to know the ink difference between a sharpie and a laundry marker. Washed and unwashed. Sharpies, of course bleed on cloth, and I do not think they were or are used readily by equipment managers. I could be wrong, so I am open to be educated...

it is a nice looking warmup suit. i really like the bulls uniforms of that era. unfortunately, it's too pricey for me to pick up and wear around.

anyway, here is a 1988 jordan warmup suit (note the "23" notation): http://www.americanmemorabilia.com/Auction_Item.asp?Auction_ID=24627

1991 jordan warmup jacket: http://www.lelands.com/bid.aspx?auctionid=212&lot=2186

1988 jordan shorts: http://www.americanmemorabilia.com/Auction_Item.asp?Auction_ID=24801

alpert's current 1989 "jordan issued" shorts: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250097938695

alpert's previous 1989 "jordan issued" home warmup: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250097934318

i guess howards point on the warmups (and likely the shorts) is that without a solid letter or even just a "23" in the shorts/warmups why would these be attributed to jordan instead of sam vincent or anthony jones? jordan was 6'6 195lbs. warren indicates these are the right size for jordan but couldn't they also be the right size for vincent and jones?
in 1989, sam vincent was 6'2", 185" and anthony jones was 6'6", 195lbs.
could these be anthony jones' warmups? then again, maybe jordan was the only one who ordered those exact size customizations? i don't know.
i'm guessing noone knows what anthony jones ordered in 1989.

if i didn't know better warren, i'd swear you were on to something..

(although "sdb23", who's purchased a collosal amount of items from "authentic_station_cn", somehow managed to acquire 4-5 sets of "game issued" jordan warmups, they opted to use the same photo for all of the different sets. too bad).

Rudy-
Rather interesting that the 1989 Grey Flannel jacket is the only one claiming to be worn by Jordan, and also has the small 23 swatch with the rest of the collar tagging. How is it that the other 1989 jackets you have links for are void of this tagging, yet claim to be issued to Jordan? If indeed these pants and jackets were issued, worn, touched, looked at by jordan, why is the tagging void of the small 23 swatch?

Both Teams Played Hard, or other experienced NBA collector care to chime in?

In the Grey Flannel auction. the number "23" swatch is affixed in an odd place. Most warm-ups from the era, that I have seen and owned are sewn directly next to the year swatch:

I could be wrong, but this is my initial observation.

Also, the blank swatch to the right of the "89" tag should not be present with the "23" uniform number tag. The blank swatch was used for handwritten uniform numbers for extra warm-ups.
