Aside from the general debate, I have a separate question---if you wanted to get a gamer signed, would you still do so if the signature was not of the proper era (e.g. the jersey was worn in 2000, the players signature changed a lot in 2004, would you get it signed in 2006)?

Re: Autographing game worn jerseys
I'd say YES. One perfect example for this would be the signature of Andruw Jones. There was an A.J. game worn fielding glove on eBay with an extremely old, ugly, hidious signature (picture below). I'd definitely prefer to see his newer signature on it other than the signature on the glove right now
His more current signature, one of the best-looking in all sports:

Re: Autographing game worn jerseys
I would have to agree a bit with Kylehess theres really no big deal of a couple of years its not like its something significant in difference.
If the player wore the Jersey in 1980 and you want him to autograph it now to me thats a huge difference but a couple of years is nothing.
In my opinion!!Comment

For instance, in 2001, 2002 and 2003 the auto of Jonny Gomes looked like this:
In late 2003 or early 2004, it changed to this:

Re: Autographing game worn jerseys
Well personaly as regardin to those autographs I would question either one of them of even being real. I have never ever seen that much of a drastic change in autograph from one year to the next. Not to say it isn't possible but do you have other examples from those years?
Again as far as there being a diffrence of putting a newer autograph on a Game Used item there really is no difference except for the eye appeal of one autograph over another and thats all in the opinion of which the collector likes better.
But here is the reality of it all no matter which autograph you like better whether its the old one or the new YOU DONT HAVE A CHOICE UNLESS YOU HAVE A TIME MACHINE TO GO BACK IN TIME AND GET AN OLDER AUTOGRAPH.
So with that being said its just a matter of getting your item autographed or not.Comment

Re: Autographing game worn jerseys
Ok you appear to be correct regarding the Gomes Autograph.
Again as far as getting the Game Used Item autographed, the question is more do you want it autographed over should it be autographed with a newer autograph.
(Granted again the time difference of when the actual item was used.)
For Example:
I wouldnt have Hank Aaron sign a Jersey now that he wore 40 years ago although I would have him autograph now a Jersey he wore last season for a special instructer of Spring Training.Comment
