I see That there is a Bernard King Knicks jersey in the current Mastro auction. The description states that the jersey is from 82/83 or 83/84 and is a size 48.The tagging does appear to be from that timeframe. However the jersey has the NBA logo in the shoulder area. The NBA logo was not placed on jerseys until the 1986/87 season. In addition I cannot recall seeing a Bernard King jersey that is a size 48.I know of five different jerseys and they are all a size 44.Three are from various past auctions and there are two others that I have in my collection.I was wondering if anyone has seen a jersey like the one in the auction.

IIRC, the Knicks wore this style jersey in 1982-83.

But the NBA logo shouldn't be on the jersey.

Do the back numbers look small?

I'm thinking of a ZZ Top song.

Looked at some different Getty pics. The numbers on back seem ok.

Name is higher than other Knicks I could find, but couldn't find a pic of BK's jersey from the back.

I agree that the name on the back is too high up and/or the rear number is too low. I am looking at the rear of an 86-87 Ewing home that I have on my wall and the name/number placement are way different.

Also, the Knicks didn't star wearing the NBA logo patch on the from until 86-87. In addition, a size 46 with the 4" of body length would also appear to be too big. The Ewing I have is a 46, with 6" of extra length and he was much larger than King and both of them, as with most players then, wore their jerseys pretty tight. I'd steer clear of that King jersey.

Reed,

Does your jersey have the same tagging as this one?

Actually, while they are similar, the Ewing I have has "MacGregor Sporting Goods" printed on the bottom of the top tag. Here's a link to a photo of the tagging from my webshots page...

Reed,

Did it go from Medalist to MacGregor?

How did you date your Ewing jersey to 86-87. Just curious.

Hi Greg,

The jersey was purchased many, many years ago. On the Grey Flannel LOA (dated May 11, 1994), it is referred to as a "circa 1986 game used home mesh" jersey. Being that the NBA logo did not appear in 85-86, I figured it must have been worn in the following year. I bought the shirt from California Sports Investments, whom I trust. Again though, it was quite some time ago.

To be honest, I don't have a ton of experience with NBA jerseys and this is the last one I own, after recently selling a Stoudemire and a Marion Suns. I would welcome any comments from forum members, who might know a little more about the tagging of these Knicks shirts.

Regards,
Reed

There is a medalist tag below the Exclusive Knicks tag. Including the extra body length tag, there are a total of three tags on the lower left of the jersey.
