Starting to get interested in Vintage items. What made this bat special?

I believe that "old hickory" was associated with Joe Jackson.

It isn't particularly special. No link to Joe J. that I am aware of.

Although Black Betsy has come to be associated with Joe Jackson his favorite bat was one that was hand made and given to him early in his career. This bat was sent to Spalding and refinished, and then at this point for some reason the bat was stamped with the spalding logo and branded old hickory on the barrell. The game used Jackson bat that sold several years ago for 500000+ was the Old Hickory model. If you plan on collecting any Jackson bats I have seen more Old Hickory models than any other, plus it is not as popular as the Spalding Black Betsy or the H&B decal or Signature model the latter I have yet to run across in my collecting. Hope that helps you out.
