At 2:24PM, one year ago today the following announcement was made on the Vintage Baseball Card Forum.

Game Used Memorabilia Forum

January 12 2005 at 2:24 PM Eric (ecky3@aol.com) Eric (Premier Login ecky3 (http://www.network54.com/Profile/ecky3))Hey everyone. There were complaints that the game used discussions didn't fit here. So I'd be willing to start a new website for that. I have space at http://www.network54.com/Index/33448 (http://www.network54.com/Index/33448)
The goal will not be not to rant or bad mouth people, but rather to discuss what's for sale and auction in game used memorabilia and the issues of the day. Let's give it a shot. Let me know what you guys think.

January 12 2005 at 2:24 PM Eric (ecky3@aol.com) Eric (Premier Login ecky3 (http://www.network54.com/Profile/ecky3))Hey everyone. There were complaints that the game used discussions didn't fit here. Wait a minute, this forum wasn't set up to rant and bad mouth each other? Dang, I came here for all the wrong reasons.

Back in 1982 when Dad got us the first Apple //e on the block, who would have guess I was on private dial-up bulletin boards and dial-up multi-line chat rooms just to rant and bad mouth people I hardly knew. In fact, the first Chicagoland multi-line system was in my buddy's bedroom. He had six modems in his six-port Apple //e and that was our chat room.

Let me elaborate, Scott Samuel (who later invented the Honesty Counters which are now known on eBay as Andale Counters due to a bad business decision by Scott) was someone I met through Sports Collectors Digest when I bought two sets of Chicago White Sox ballpark give-a-way baseball cards from the early 1980's. He sent the cards in a standard #10 envelope, and I remember they arrived with the envelope torn but the cards in-tack.

Later I logged into his chat room where he was discussing baseball cards and we became friends ever since. Scott convinced me to start buying and selling baseball cards on weekends, and the rest was almost history.

Scott and I used to also play poker with a few other guys. Even though we played for money, often we played for baseball cards. A usual pot would have two Don Mattingly Topps Rookies, three Dwight Gooden Topps Rookies and a Roger Clemens Fleer Update Rookie. We ruined all the corners on the cards, but it was all in fun.

Ok, enough about me, congratulations Eric on keeping this going for a year, I hope to see it around for many more! :)

Eric,

The Forum has grown so much in the past year! Congratulations on your efforts to create a place where game used equipment collectors can gather and share information. As the Moderator, I'm sure you have to do a lot of monitoring (just as I do at work!), but you are doing an admirable job of keeping everything in line.

In a previous post in which you asked what we gained from 2005, I replied that I learned how much I didn't know until learning of your site. Thank you so much for making this forum available and ensuring all of us are forever growing in this great hobby.

Kind Regards,

Ron.

Eric, thanks for giving us a spot to talk about vintage memorabilia where there are no baseball card collectors to "Yell" at us. :D
