I just got a game worn Lance Briggs jersey/pants set from AMI. It was worn during the Bears vs. Giants contest, on November 12, 2006 and has paperwork from Game Exclusives. I shows excellent game wear and, by the smell of it, it appears to be unwashed. Fortunately, the scent isn't too overwhelming and I can display the jersey in a cabinet that prevents the odor from spreading throughout the house. It's a great set for those of us who are Bears fans and aren't willing or able to spend $5K on an Urlacher. Now, I just have to hold out hope that he won't sit out or be traded. Gotta love these modern day athletes....

I also scored a 2004 game used Gary Sheffield helmet, with Steiner papers and holgram, from Grey Flannel's latest auction. I've been able to photomatch it to several Getty images and it shows awesome game use. Shef doesn't appear to be too gentle with his helmets....

reed1216,

Impressive collection of Yankees game worn jerseys and nice Sheffield helmet!

I have this photo of Mike Mussina vs. the Marlins on 6-25-06 saved on my computer and it looks to be an exact match to your jersey!

Reed,

I went in and looked at your collection, nice stuff. The Briggs is a jersey I looked at buying also, I like it.

My latest purchase is the Cadillac Williams jersey from used on 11-13-06 vs Carolina. I have the game tape as well as photos. It came directly from Cadillac, after the game, and as you can see it is unrepaired or washed.

Coming from Zanebats....thanks Zane!

Brian Giles uncracked gamer with good ball marks and pine tar. Giles was on my list of everyday guys that I just like for no particular reasons. At age 36, he may not have too many years left but he's a good everyday ballplayer.

Funny you should say this. I feel the same about Giles. Don't ask me why, but I always liked him as well, following him from Cleveland to Pittsburgh, where he had some dynomite years. I too picked up a Giles Indians bat recently - probably about 2-3 months ago. It was a fairly cheap one - very lightly used, a couple of seam marks, rack marks, etc., but fairly clean otherwise. The thing I liked most about this bat is that the knob bears his name and #58, his original number with the tribe from his rookie season.

TNT - there's a few guys like Giles that for whatever reason, I just like the guy as an every day good ballplayer. Steve Finley is another, Mark Grace too.....guys like that.

Thanks -- I like it more for the fact that it is a rookie year bat than anything else. I have certainly have seen Giles bats with more use.
This one does not have many ball marks, I can count a handful. There are visible seam marks -- you can make out the outline of the entire seam in a number of places, but none of them will photograph against the black. Plenty of rack marks - a reddish color, but again, difficult to see by photograph. He signed the bat with "58 and Giles" on both ends but the barrel portion is half worn off. Again, not a heavily used bat, and looks even cleaner by photo -- probably why it was such a bargain.

Went to Nationals game tonight and stopped by the team store. They had a few destroyed bats including:

Zimmerman, snapped in half
Nick Johnson, sliced in half
2 badly cracked Jason Bergman bats
Ryan Church broken in half but the pieces fit together nicely
Jesus Flores, moderately cracked
Some unknown former Braves pitcher. Couldnt read the sig. Employees said that he was called up by the Nats. It had nice use and a unique "Posadaesq" tape job. Sure wish I knew who the sig belonged to.

After some searching, I came away with this. Sorry for the crazy large pics, I was trying a new setting on the digital. It has his 23 on the knob and barrel, a blue ball mark on the knob, lots of rack marks and a couple of ball marks and some grain seperation on the back. The MLB hologram is damaged though and I can only read the last 3 numbers. DO they put the hologram on before its used? There is a mark that goes the length of the barrel and across the hologram.

A slightly cracked Brian Schneider LS model E53:

Some great pick ups all around.
The David Eckstein Cardinals bat is really nice. Isn't he one of those guys that you rarely see any game used stuff of his on the market, kinda like Biggio.

Sheffield11,

Thank you for finding that getty photo. It's definetly the same bat. Looks like Manny used two different Sam bats on 4-29-07 vs the Yankees, one with a silver cross and one with just the maple leaf sticker on the knob.

When I got the bat in, it was dated 4-4-06 on the top of the barrel and nothing written on the knob just the "made in canada" maple sticker on the knob.

The pine tar was still pretty tacky and I had a hunch that it might have been used earlier this year but the taped knob had me guessing as it look like a late 2006 season Manny tape job.

I previously found a photo on Corbis of Manny vs Orioles on 4-26-07 swinging a similar bat with tape job and no uniform number written on the end of the knob and I thought it looked like the bat I have. Now that you found that getty image of Manny vs Yankees on 4-29-07, I'm sure its the same bat in the photo vs the Orioles, the white mark matches up and also the pine tar application. I'll post some better pics of the match later.

Thanks again, Bobby

Noted the discussion by Vintagedeputy and TNTtoys regarding Brian Giles bats. I picked this one up in Feb 1999. Wondered if you folks had ever seen a Brian Giles St Louis Cardinal bat? Here are a few pictures of his H238 LS.
Information on this bat would be appreciated. Thanks,

On the Giles bat... yes, you have something fairly unusual, but not 100% surprising. Recently, there was a discussion on this forum regarding LVS bats with wrong teams printed for certain players. Two examples were given:
Tino Martinez, Baltimore Orioles
Benny Agbayani, Philadelphia Phillies
I'd chalk yours up as another LVS blunder. I'd also keep it if I were you -- you have an interesting collectible.

My only question would be whether or not Giles actually used the bat... Giles did wear #22 for a couple of years in Cleveland. Is it his bat? The timing of your purchase is just after his last season with this #, so it would make sense to me that it's his bat... but there is also the chance the bat was part of the Cardinals organization. When you bought the bat, did you receive any provenance?

TNTtoys,
Bat was purchased 022199 from Sportswarehouse, paid $31 (price was right), and no provenance provided. They just listed it a Cardinal game bat of Brian Giles. I only collect Cardinal bats and tried to find information that he was ever part of the Cardinal organization but no luck. I thought it an error bat before, but wondered if some of you folks might have any information on it. Also wondered if it was/is an error how many more are out there? I don't think players just order one bat at a time. I have never seen another. Appreciated your response.

There was a rumor in 2005 that Giles was headed to the Cardinals (http://www.sportingnews.com/yourturn/viewtopic.php?t=26901) but if you got the bat in '99, I'm stumped......maybe there was a deal in place that fell through and someone at LS started making bats prematurely?

Diamondbacks prospect Justin Upton (B.J.'s little brother) wore and signed this jersey on his last day in single-A ball, with Visalia; he's now with double-A Mobile, and could even be up with the big club by the end of the year - they say he's that good.

http://i23.ebayimg.com/06/i/000/a8/2f/5c2a_12.JPG

For a pink jersey, it's not bad looking!

I enjoy picking up "oddball" jerseys of DBacks-related players. After the team's #1 draft pick a couple of years ago, Stephen Drew (J.D.'s younger brother) held out for part of the year and went to play with the indy Camden Riversharks, they auctioned a couple of his jerseys to benefit charity after he finally signed and left that team, and I got the road jersey - got him to sign it a couple of months ago.

I've also managed to get Team USA jerseys for a couple of DBacks players or prospects, including Mark Reynolds' '06 road jersey, worn in the series where they defeated Cuba in the final game of the tournament.
