Hi Would Eddie Mathews Put S2 On The End Of His Knob. I found out it a 1974 bat. when he was a coach would it be worth as much or less and it looks just like his game bat and every thing

Eddie Mathews did use a bat that had S2 on the knob according to the Mastronet reference guide. And Coaches bats are worth less than gamers.

Hi-

During the 1973 - 1975 H & B labeling period, Eddie Mathews received two orders of Model S2 bats from H & B. One order of 6 bats was shipped on 6/26/73 and another order of 12 bats was shipped on 1/7/74. All of these bats were 35 inches in length and weighed 33 ounces. All were flame-burned finish, wide grain wood, and weights were marked (usually in pencil on the knob.) Mathews also received several orders of K100 fungo bats during his coaching days.

As noted in an earlier reply, a player's bat used as a coach after his Major League playing days are over is not considered "game-used" and is greatly reduced in value . In the case of a player like Eddie Mathews, however, where the coaches bat is the same model, length, weight, etc as he used during his playing career, a coaches bat can be a much less expensive alternative to a game used bat, and still is characteristic of that player. An Eddie Mathews coaches bat is likely valued IN THE $250.00 - $300.00 range

Good Luck in future collecting.

Mike
