Rudy - Here is an ARod from MASAUCTION. The pictures were still attached.
What do you think of this tagging:

The pictures are removed by eBay after 60 days or so for all auctions. This seller was offering an "un-used game jersey" and they also referred to it is a "pro-cut jersey". I understand concern with who the buyer of the jersey was, but what is wrong with this jersey that you question the seller?

Let's stick to the subject.
We're going down the wrong road questioning someone who sells game cuts.
There's nothing wrong with buying or selling game cuts as long as they stay game cuts.
Please don't get carried away here folks.

There is nothing wrong with selling game issued or pro-cut especially when labeled game issued or pro-cut. We personally have been selling Michael Jordan pro-cuts.
Game issued are generally fine when they actually are "game issued". The Yankees jerseys sold by MASAUCTION look fine to me, but I am skeptical due to the whole Steiner Yankee control of the jerseys.
My question is simply how this seller gets an ARod and Clemens and other Yankees "game issued" outside of Steiner. I am very happy they are not pawned off as game used.
I have spoken to my Steiner rep specifically about these and he said "no comment".

Well, that's certainly not very helpful. Do you think he has no clue or is this a top secret operation?

Where is the Clemens jersey mentioned as being "game issued" as you asked in quotes? I just looked at the auction and since you used quotes, please explain what you were quoting as it was never used in those terms.
Even if it was, what "game issued" means to you and what it means to others is a different story. "Game issued" can mean game ready, but who decided that a "game issued" jersey had to hang in the locker room? It has been debated on these forums time and time again. There is no concrete terminology on this forum or in eBay's rules about what these terms really mean.
"Pro-cut" and "Un-used game" are similar terms, but if you are bidding on this item, wouldn't you ask questions of the seller in advance of if this item was ever in the team's possession before bidding? Then again, don't you think a seller would tell you if the item came right from the team to attract a higher ending price?
Did you email the seller and ask your questions before posting your questions on the forum?

Joel,
I think you're getting your forum rules mixed up. Andrew never said the jersey was bad. In fact, he stated that the jerseys were "perfectly tagged 'unused' jerseys." He is curious as to how and where someone can get Yankees superstar jerseys outside of Steiner. Are you suggesting that he really should have contacted Mitch to ask him this? First of all, that would be silly. Second of all, that may be construed as an inappropriate usage of the eBay messaging system (as it could be interpreted as solicitation for outside business).
Lastly, Andrew put "un-used" in quotes with reference to Mitch's jerseys (which you did, yourself - see your post at 4:16pm today) and not "game issued" as you stated he did. He used "game issued" in quotes in a later post in the context of a general discussion about game issued jerseys being sold as game issued as opposed to game worn.
Not that I'm trying to end this discussion, but Eric asked us to stick to the focus of the thread. We should all agree to follow this suggestion.

Re: ASI / Historic Auctions / Expert Sports Authentication
Reid, read the last post by AllStarPlus - They used quoted in the term "game issued".
I think if he is going to question the seller's items, they should email their concerns to the seller first, per forum policy. Then they can report the seller's reply if they have an issue with it.
Ok, what has been done with the new information on Historic Auctions - James Brown?

Joel - I know you can't speak for the seller. I don't know the seller and feel no reason to email him since I am not accusing him of anything. Un-used just means that it hasn't been used by definition. It then can be further classified as un-used game issued, un-used pro-cut, un-used authentic or un-used replica. Look at the ARod tagging. Is that a un-used game issued? Is there a reason it was called un-used and not game issued with that type of tagging? Is it a pro-cut or an authentic or a replica???
Most Yankee jerseys on Rudy's list were listed as un-used with the exception of a Matsui was game issued by ProSportsInvestments http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...9%2B%26fvi%3D1.

I have no issue with the jerseys. I was amazed with the number of Yankees jerseys that Turtle purchased.

Re: ASI / Historic Auctions / Expert Sports Authentication
I can say this about MASAUCTION as I dealt with him on a few occasions. He was a stand up guy with me. I am familiar where he got some of his items from. I do not know where he got the Roger Clemens from but I do know he won quite a few lots during the GREY FLANNEL/STEINER AUCTION back in febuary and was break up the lots and selling them piece by piece.

If he did in fact purchase them from the Grey Flannel/Steiner auction, why didn't he indicate they originated from Steiner? Why didn't the Steiner rep, whom Andrew talked to, explain that the jerseys were from the auction instead of offering up "no comment"? Seems a little strange to me. Not questioning the authenticity of the jerseys, just wondering.

Everyone-
This thread has nothing to do with masauction or yankees pro cuts or steiner. If you would like to have the discussion about pro cuts and the hobby, might I suggest you open an new thread and stick to facts. Please stay away from "could be's" or "might happen's."
There are some very serious hobby issues contained in this thread- people have some some great work here, and we should keep focus.
Thank you

Hey guys for all the game issued fans. Here's something store issued. Another Historic piece of crap.
The auction description read "This game used bat shows nice use including ball and lace marks on the bat barrel"
Good Luck Everyone!

Re: ASI / Historic Auctions / Expert Sports Authentication
I love how Wells "authenticated" it when there's a line under 125 on the bat and shows no signs of use whatsoever. Yikes.

Re: ASI / Historic Auctions / Expert Sports Authentication
This thread should be saved as an educational tool for those just beginning to collect as well as long term collectors. Maybe it's a good thing that MLB and other leagues are taking more interest in game used items to sell for their own auctions since the memorabilia market (like any other marketplace) will always be full of those willing to try to make a quick buck and take advantage of others.

Re: ASI / Historic Auctions / Expert Sports Authentication
In reading this long but fascinating thread, I noticed some references to MASAuction. Wasn't there an auction company by that name owned by a guy named Mitch (last name escapes me--might have been Schumacher) and wasn't he convicted at one point of selling fake items? This might have been part of the big FBI sting that was widely reported in Sports Collectors Digest for a couple of years (or it might have been a separate investigation, I don't remember). Does anybody know if this Ebay seller using the name MASAuction is the same guy who cheated collectors?

I would recommend that if you want to discuss this topic, that it be posted in a different thread AND it be very important to stick with facts.
I can tell you that Mr Schumaker has always been a helpful resource for me and has helped me work towards improving the hobby. He has nothing to do with this thread or what transpired with historic auctions.

Re: ASI / Historic Auctions / Expert Sports Authentication
If what people have discovered is true, then is this statement from Historic Auctions factually correct? Is it truly a third party?
Historic Auctions was founded in 2005 with a great desire to bring sports fans the products they love directly from the field. It is the start of something very special and was created to offer the best products, while providing the easiest bidding process found. By offering you, the collector, hundreds of game-used items obtained directly from the players, we have tried to take the guesswork out of collecting. Since every item in our auction has been authenticated by a third party, you never need wonder if your latest purchase was authentic. Only offering 100% authentic items is of our utmost priority.

Sorry Not To Put All This In One Post. I Have Nothing Against This Auction House. I Have Bought From Them And Had So-so Experience. But, With All The People Ripping The Up I Cantbelieve Thatnot One Person Mentioned Thederek Lee Jersey From 2005 In The Auction. 1. The Jersey Has A Year Tag In The Bottom Tail, Everyone Knows That Cubs Have Strip Tagging In The Collar. 2. The Best Thing, In 2005 The Cubs Home Jerseys Did "not" Have Names In The Lee Jersey From "2005" It Has The Lee Name On Back. How Did Notone Person Notice This?????

Re: ASI / Historic Auctions / Expert Sports Authentication
Eric, I need to post a retraction of my comment of the bats from pga-shooter-101 coming from the same address as ASI . I would appreciate it if you can delete it . I have to apologize to any and all . I have seen the address on Cordova before , I bought one bat off ASI when I first started collecting again in 2005 , maybe from the ebay statement or my paypal statement or it was an hallucination ?? I have no problem admitting I was mistaken on the address :o. I was wrong in not waiting to post before being 100% sure . Anyway I found out I was wrong today I was searching in my attic and found one of the tubes that came from Joseph Harry and the address is in the same neighborhood as Cordova Blvd NE (even ends with Blvd NE) , but is different . I looked before a few weeks ago and did not find the tube . I save the round cardboard shipping tubes (w/the plastic end caps) that I receive with bats I buy . I have close to 10 of them saved up there . I guess I owe one more apology to all and should say something nice about ASI , the bat I did buy is very nice :), and as advertised. I have shown it my friend Ryan and he says its good !! I believe Ryan is a GUU member and has a big collection of bats .

Re: ASI / Historic Auctions / Expert Sports Authentication
friends, romans, countrymen..
in the past week i've received 2 emails. 1 from historic auctions and 1 from asi.
if there was any lingering doubt regarding asi/brad wells' current substantial involvement with historic auctions (beyond simply "authenticating"), i present you with the following info:
the historic auctions email:
Originating IP: 82.165.235.192
Received from: 82.165.235.192 (EHLO gulftobaytrading.com)
the brad wells/asi email:
Originating IP: 82.165.235.192
Received from: 82.165.235.192 (EHLO gulftobaytrading.com)
asi/brad's email ended off with "god bless". it was nice to get a little piece of bernie in the whole mix as well.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
To whom it may concern:
I am a long time collector and very new to game used universe. I have enjoyed reading about ASI and Historic Auctions. It's great to see everyone pool their resources and information together to keep the business side of collecting as honest as possible. That said, and I'm sure I'm not the first to write in about this (this is my first posting), but all the discussion about Historic Auctions led me to check out what game used jerseys were available for sale in their current auction.
On 9-25-06, "kingjammy24" wrote up this list of UN-USED or GAME ISSUED JERSEYS purchased on ebay by turtlegrrl18, who forum member "kyledane" has linked that ebay user id to James Brown.
Also on 9-25-06, forum member "sylbry" posted a comment to "be on the lookout for these (unused/game issued jerseys purchased by turtlegrrl18) in the next historic auction."
Well, Historic Auctions just ended an auction today, 12-15-06, and some of the items sold as "Game Used" bear a striking resemblence to the "un-used" or "game issued" jerseys purchased just a few months ago.
it appears as though some of these (NINE, to be exact) unused or game issued jerseys have literally "gone thru the wash" and ended up a few months later as "Game Used" Jerseys in this most recent Historic Auctions, most have been exclusively authenticated by "Expert Sports Authentication/Brad Wells." After seeing the example of Brad Wells' certificate of authenticity for Chuck Knoblauch "game used bat", I think this individual's credibility is highly suspect.
That said, the following is a list of jerseys that were just sold (the auction ended today 12-15-06) as GAME USED by Historic Auctions:
1. 2003 Roger Clemens Home Jersey $3100.00
2. 2006 Albert Pujols Away Jersey $2342.56
3. 2004 Alex Rodriguez Home Jersey $3300.00
4. 2004 Hideki Matsui Home Jersey $878.46
5. 2006 Mike Piazza Away Jersey $1210.00
6. 2006 Jim Edmonds Away Jersey $450.00
7. 2006 Magglio Ordonez Away Jersey $314.60
8. 2006 Nomar Garciaparra Away Jersey $700.00
9. 2006 Scott Rolen Home Jersey $550.00
The total cost of these nine jerseys is: $12,845.62.
SIX of the nine jerseys are ONLY authenticated by "Expert Sports Authentication/Brad Wells", including the Pujols Jersey which sold for over $2300.00.
The descriptions of the jerseys on the Historic Auctions website include lines like:
"the bottom left tag is extremely soft and wrinkled due to extensive washing." (A-rod jersey)
"the wash tag, year tag, size and extra length tags show heavy wear from extensive washing." (Matsui jersey)
"the inside left of the jersey bears the Majestic 0062 logo, which is wrinkled heavily due to extensive washing." (Pujols Jersey)
Now, let me be very clear: I am not making any accusations, and there is, of course, the distinct possibility of coincidence.
But, based on what has been described previously in this forum, I would like to see this discussion continue, as I believe that the claims made here do merit at least further consideration.
Thank You.

Re: ASI / Historic Auctions / Expert Sports Authentication
I know I'm rehashing a bit, but this is too much fun!
to add to the posting which i listed earlier today:
After cross-referencing the purchases made by the Ebay user ID "turtlegrrl18" with items that sold today in an auction from "historic auctions," you can see three jerseys that may have been purchased as "game issued" in september 2006 and that may have been sold as game used (authenticated by Brad Wells) today!
The list is:
1. Scott Rolen Cardinals Home Jersey. Purchased by turtlegrrl18 on August 18th, 2006 on Ebay (item #110026369369). Item purchased as "GAME ISSUED." A Rolen Jersey sold December 15th, 2006, at www.historicauctions.com, as "GAME USED," accompanied by a letter of authenticity from BRAD WELLS.
Ironically, the jersey was purchased on ebay for $700 was "game issued", and the one sold at historic auctions for $550 was "game used".
2. Mike Piazza 2006 Padres Away Jersey. Purchased as a "GAME ISSUED" Jersey on August 27, 2006 by ebay user, "turtlegrrl". It is ebay item #110026398287. A 2006 Piazza Away Jersey sold December 15, 2006 as "GAME USED" in an auction at Historic Auctions.
This Piazza jersey was purchased on ebay for $700. The one at historic auctions sold for $1210.
3. Albert Pujols Cardinals 2006 Away Jersey. This Jersey was purchased as a "GAME ISSUED" Jersey on August 27th, 2006 on ebay for $1500 by "turtlegrrl". A 2006 Pujols Away Jersey sold on December 15, 2006 as a "GAME USED" Jersey at Historic Auctions for $2342.56.
This Pujols Jersey was purchased as game issued for $1500. The one sold as game used went for $2342.56.
Overall, the three "game ISSUED jerseys" were purchased for $2900.
The three "game USED jerseys" sold for $4102.56.
A difference of $1202.56.
Not a lot of money when one considers how much, oh, shall we say, just hypothetically, an attorney charges a client who is brought up on federal charges of fraud and/or larceny by way of deception.
Just saying that lawyers fees are exorbitant, that's all.
So, game used universe, what do you think of the correlation between what was purchased just a few months ago and what was sold today?

Re: ASI / Historic Auctions / Expert Sports Authentication
Looks like the forum had all of this information 3 years before the FBI did.
Kudos to those that did the leg work
