Vintage Authentics Lot 64 - Eric Chavez Game Used/Auto jersey

I just wanted to write everyone to add some possible relevant information to Lot #64 from Vintage Authentics current auction. The auction is for a "Eric Chavez 2001 Game Used & Autographed Jersey A5."

I purchased a green blank team issued A's jersey back in 2003 on ebay. I bought the jersey with the intention of having it customized to Eric Chavez #3 which I did through authentic lettering in chicago. I then was able to have Eric Chavez sign it at Spring Training in 2004. The jersey sat in my closet until this past spring when I sold it on ebay (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...0%3D%26fvi%3D1).

After this point, I do not know the path of the jersey. However, I believe that the jersey that I sold could have been altered and consigned as game used. The differences that I see between the two jerseys are that the one I sold had a "2 inch extra length tag" present while the VA does not. Also, the size "46" tag appears to have more distance between the Raulings tag and the top of the number 46 than the VA jersey does. This is all speculation, but if the 2 inch tag was removed, the 46 tag could have been moved at the same time. The highlighted puckering between my jersey and the VA jersey seems to be the same. Also the signatures seem to line up pretty well. The similarity between the signatures could be due to the fact that well the same person signed both jerseys (I understand this), but the placement also seems pretty much the same to me.

Now I could be completely crazy and these could be two separate jerseys. However, this site has taught me to do research and let the facts speak for themselves. I would love to hear your opinions on my opinion.

The following are pictures that I took prior to selling the jersey on ebay and pictures from the current auction.

Also, the stitching pattern on the bottom of the Rawlings Authentic Collection seems similar. Note that on both jerseys one of the stitch patterns rises going from left to right on the bottom of the Rawlings Authentic Collection tag relative to another double stitch line.

      michael,

bit of a tough one. i can see some differences in the tagging but i'm unsure if they were caused by the removal of the extra length tag. you wonder why someone would go to the trouble of removing the extra length tag. it's possible that they needed it for a more lucrative jersey. the tag differences perplex me because the signatures appear identical.

At least to my knowledge I haven't seen a Chavez jersey with any alteration flag tags.

The MLB logo on the neck is in the same exact spot in both photos. Also it appears there's extra stitch holes as well as loose thread on the one now up for auction.

Also if you look close, in the top left of the arch of the 6 in 46 there's a small black dot, it's in the same exact spot in the auction jersey.

this is the email reply that I received after I wrote VA about my concern.

From the Co-CEO of Vintage Authentics:

"I am responding to the email you sent regarding the Chavez jersey. As the email points out the tagging of the two jerseys that were mentioned is different. I looked at the comparison pictures of the autograph and they seem to be obviously different as well. The top of the C in the first picture appears to go over the stitching on the 3 whereas the signature on the VA jersey appears to go below the stitching and fade out a bit. I hope that information is helpful. If you have any other questions, please check back with us.

              Thank you,

              Mark Redmond
              Co-CEO Vintage Authentics"

                Rudy,

I'm not seeing too many differences between the tags.

I also note that at the top left of the "3", above the signature, the lower portion of the yellow stitching dips down slightly and then goes back up. This characteristic seems to match on both also. Like Vintagedeputy said, that's the same jersey.

                      Forum Readers,

I have contacted Troy at MEARS and he will be looking into their assessment of the jersey. I agree wholeheartedly with Vintage Deputy as this is the same jersey. There are way too many exact similarites.

                      1. The signature...(if you could get both photos to show the stiching you could complete a stich count as to where the loops in the sigs match) It appears as if they are exactly the same.

                      2. The "dot" on the inside of the "6" on the size tag is there in both.

                      3. The folds and creases in the Rawlings tag are identical.

                      4. Look at the washing instructions on both jerseys...The "E" in use is very thick and show is the first "N" on NON. The washing instruction letters are identical on both jerseys

I can go on and on, but the previous owner does a fantastic job of clearly displaying evidence that the jerseys are the same.

One does not need Dr. Henry Lee for this one...two old veteran cops (vintage deputy and myself) clearly believe these are one in the same.

I will let you know what Troy decides on the information laid out.
