These Crew shirts went for a lot!!

I was watching this lot of rowing shirts from 1939 and was shocked how high they went. They appear to be shirts from Cornell and Princenton's 1939 150 Pound Crew teams. (Each rowing school usually had 4 teams: Varsity, JV, Freshman and 150 Pound Crew).

Not sure why they went so high. Any opinions?

First off, crew shirts are probably quite rare and these are attractive examples. I'm stereotyping here, but I always think of crew as a sport for the wealthy. Combine that with the exclusivity of both schools and you get bidders with a lot of money to spend on a rare item with a lot of eye appeal.
