Cool GU Yankees helmet, but what is this on each side?
Cool Yankees helmet available at Steiner, priced well above what it is worth to me unfortunately however. But cool, nonetheless.
BUT what are these things on each side that look like a thin strip of foam or something like that? Some type of helmet filler material used in repairs? See what I have circled in the rear view.
What is that? Why is it there? Or is it just an optical illusion?
I am not criticizing the item, I like it, I'm just wondering what the heck that is. Don't own any helmets and am just curious.
Thanks.

PS, my point is the circled areas appear to be sticking out, like there is something added there, foam, some type of filler etc. Its not pine tar.
Is that just an illusion?

In my opinion it looks like another helmet was stacked on top of it and the tar stuck to the other helmets padding and ripped it off. Just my opinion.

Hi Todd,
Great point. That might explain why pine tar is lacking in those areas too, that some of the pine tar stuck to the inside of another helmet, and some of it pulled that padding off. Great point Todd, I didn't even think of that. Thanks.
