    AMI Jerome Bettis

AMI is selling a Bettis in their current auction...compare the location of the Nike logo on the sleeves...doesn't appear close to me...I'd like to know what other forum members think?

Ask for a closeup to see if the stitching on the 6 is over the auto.

this isn't from AMI. i just blew it up and increased the contrast a little. hard to tell but it doesn't look promising.

Looking through all the photos on Gettyimages from 2000, the only Steelers to wear the type of long sleeve depicted on the jersey in the AMI auction were Kent Graham, Brent Alexander, Josh Miller and Kris Brown. Maybe it's game issued since this appears to have been an option for the players?

Pardon me for sounding naive, but....

Is photo-matching really the only way you all consider a jersey to be legit? I understand that there are a lot of fake items out there, but this is a jersey with a letter from the player stating it was game-used. Shouldn't that hold at least some determining factor to this piece?

    chris13....

I agree with you...personally I don't even consider purchasing a modern day jersey without such documentation...

but there are genuine mistakes made every day by athletes...it'd be one thing if Bettis took this jersey off his back and then sold it through a distributer...and it's another if someone at a private signing presents him with this jersey and asks him if it looks like something that he wore...the description in the auction is obvious that this jersey didn't originate through Bettis

I'd be suprised if Bettis knew about all of the garbage pro-cuts that are out there...It's not his fault..I'm sure to him this looks like a game ready jersey

Again it's about doing your own homework..I timed my research on this one and it took 3 minutes and 18 seconds.

I would normally say yes, that should be given consideration. However, the way the letter is interesting.

"I have reviewed the corresponding home white Steelers jersey pictured below. . ." - I'm not an NFL guy. But is it just my bad memory, or aren't home uni's in the NFL the darker colors?

"I can say this jersey was used by me in 2000 when I playing for in the Pittsburgh Steelers by year and team tags on the jersey as well as the jerseys size 46."

"It was my pleasure to view this item and sign it with my 2000 statistics"

That doesn't sound to me like this came from Jerome's personal collection. Therefore, is it possible that a doctored jersey was provided to Bettis and he looked for the few things he would know. (I'm not saying this jersey is bogus, just playing devil's advocate).
"We need rebirth of the American tradition of leadership ... in private life as well." "'Trust me' government asks that we concentrate our hopes and dreams on one man; that we trust him to do what's best for us. My view of government places trust not in one person or one party, but in those values that transcend persons and parties. The trust is where it belongs--in the people." - Ronald Reagan"

The jersey is from the 2000-2001 season and the letter is dated in 2006...that's 5+ years later that Bettis "viewed" this jersey

Notice how the sleeves on the jersey in the auction have a full second white stripe followed by more yellow? All the Bus pictures hers show that his sleeves were cuffed before the second white stripe ended....
