What kind of ball marks are these ??? Crawford X-Bat on Ebay from ESM....
I am curious as to what kind of ball marks are on this Crawford bat listed on ebay by fellow forum member ESM ?
I am curious cause the marks look smaller than a Official MLB Baseball also lacking is the seam impressions....
Link below ......Auction is about to end ......
I remember seeing these small ball marks being discussed before on GUU....
I was thinking about bidding but the marks and use don't look quite right.....
Any ideas would be appreciated ?

I too was looking to bid on that bat. A few things made me pass, the first were the ball marks that did not look quite right. Secondly, the knob and the end of the bat are pristine. Lastly, look in the pic of Crawford signing and look at all the bats lined up on the wall and floor. Those things along with ESM's questionable rep and I have to pass. I am going to have to keep looking for my first Crawford gamer.
Just my too cent,

Having played in a wood bat league it is my opinion that those marks are made when you just get a piece of the ball. Foul tip . I have seen those
on my bats before and because of the rotation and the seams on the ball
each one tends to be slightly unique in shape depending on how much of the ball you hit/didnt hit

Also if a player is using a bat correctly with the label facing him, the blue ball marks are on the correct side for a lefty and those smaller marks ( foul tips ) would be on the label side or the opposite side not in the same location as balls that are hit well. These smaller marks all appear to be on the opposite side of the label which further convinces me these are indeed foul tip marks.

Mike,
I was only talking about the Crawford bat. I didnt see this other discussion with the half dozen bats all with similar markings until now.
The collection of bats with the same markings looks like a mixture of
rubber ball markings like those you use in a batting cage, and very dirty balls . Used by someone who could not make very solid contact ! Not to mention the odd purple ball? markings on some of the barrels .

I had a XBat made for myself and my daughter and I go to the park and I pitch official MLB balls to her and she uses this bat to hit them. Bear in mind I'm not throw heat and lobbing them to her via softball tosses. She makes solid contact and attached are the photos of the barrel of the bat.
The photos do not show them well but the marks are very similar in size to the Crawford bat on ebay.
What strikes me about the Crawford is that each ball mark is too close in size to each other.
I like RC Walker's idea on ping pong balls. However remember Mr BaseBall when Tom Selleck goes to a golf range with the manager and he's forced to hit golf balls!
